Hey, Aerith! I think you owe me a story about Wall Market, huh? It's way overdue, even. I hope you're not hiding it on purpose!

...Oh, and while you're- actually, nevermind. I still want that story, though! You promised!

[Serious business can wait until they meet in person, anyway. It's better that way.]Never thought I'd be so happy to see a ( Read more... )

draft business, pants-on-fire degrees outside, aerith, wall market eh?, good spirits

[ Lightning does not like the heat. Fortunately, she's managing to keep from looking distinctly miserable, but with the amount of layers she usually wears highly reduced even inside the house and... her hair actually tied and clipped back for once, it's probably fairly obvious anyway.

That and the annoyed attitude... but this is Lightning.

Anyway, right now she's also commandeered the kitchen table with her gunblade and what seems to be a book on gunblades. Hope you weren't planning on using that? ]

[He hadn't made any table-using plans, but the gunblade has long been an object of great interest to him, even when Genesis copies were using them to shoot rockets at his head. They're pretty awesome weapons, though they're a little beyond his capabilities. Multitasking is not his strong spot.

Coming over to be nosy now~]

You're reading a book about your own weapon?

[ The weapon itself is... not exactly dismantled, but clearly inactive and somewhere in-between 'sword' and 'gun' where it's laid out, all sorts of stuff spread everywhere around it- stuff that must have a hand in cleaning the thing, though Lightning's just sort of staring at it all in a state of mild frustration. ]

... Yeah. [ She looks up slowly after a short pause, dry in both demeanor and tone. ] Are you saying you don't?

Noooot really, I can't lie. The Buster was custom-made, so it doesn't exactly come with a manual.

[Not that he'd read it if it had one. What's it going to say? Pointy end go stabby stabby? It's not rocket science.]

[ She wasn't... really serious about that. Pretty sure you could you could get away with just bludgeoning things to death with that thing he calls a 'sword.' No need for the sharp end, really. ]

Hm. So is this, actually. [ Custom, that is. IF YOU COULDN'T TELL BY THE WAY HER NAME IS ENGRAVED ON IT TWICE AND THE ~SPECIAL QUOTE~ ALONG THE MAIN EDGE. Her eyes drift to and narrow at the book. ] This reference isn't quite right, but it's the best I've been able to find so far.

[You mean that special quote that he totally can't read? |D he probably wouldn't get it anyway He drags up a chair and plops down, getting a better look at the blade.]

What're you doing, getting it cleaned?

[Does she need a manual for that?]

Yeah... and making sure it's not going to just fall apart on me.

[ Exaggerating there a little, although obviously she takes this very seriously-- especially after what happened to the gunblade she was using before she turned Cie'th- she'd been prepared for the possibility of a jam, buuuut... anyway. ]

Back home I'd get an expert to look at it... but here, I have to be the expert.

I guess they probably wouldn't know in the weapon shop, either. [Though it's a great place to go if you're looking for a really good sharpening, that's for sure.] It looks pretty fancy, even for this place.

That's the problem. [ She frowns as she stares down at it, leaning on an elbow as she clicks something back into place. ] From what I've heard... seems I'm pretty lucky to even get it back here.

[ Who knows why, although she'd still be pretty tempted to trade it for some of the things she hasn't had returned to her. Sentimentality is a weird thing. ]

Lucky? Why's that? It's yours, isn't it? [What with the name, and the... writing... whatever that is. She looks like she's familiar with it, anyway.] Everybody seems to get their own weapons here.

Ah... [ Lightning pauses, abruptly a touch self-conscious. Did she just call herself lucky? Haha that's a good one. She lifts a hand to brush a few stray strands of hair out of her eyes, leaning back a bit. ] Like you said- just seems a little more advanced than a lot of the things you see people carrying around.

[ 'Cause even if she's pretty good at adapting, when it comes down to it the general level of technology here is practically Brass Age for her. There's a loooot of spoiled Cocoon folk who would just be completely lost. ]

Anyway, you don't have a lot of your stuff too, right? Materia and that kind of thing?

wingenvy June 17 2011, 23:25:30 UTC
Yeah, I only got a few materia during the draft. By the time I got home, they'd all been taken away. You remember the slots in my sword? That's where they used to be. [And maaaan does he ever miss the set he'd had before Nibelheim.]

[ Lightning narrows her eyes as she tries to remember... ]

... You mean like Aerith's staff? [ O GOD SHE'S LEARNING. Actually she doesn't remember if Aerith ever mentioned what the slots were for, but it's not that hard to piece together in retrospect. ] So... you just put them in there and... they let you use magic?

[ "Or what?" look goes here. ]

You got it! Without materia, I can't do a single spell. [Well, not exactly true, but he can't even begin to think of how to explain the DMW aka Akai can't brain to ICly connect it to reality. Not that they seem to work in Luceti anyway. yet] That's why I have to make sure I don't get rusty with my sword. I'm not much good without it, unless you need someone around for cannon fodder.

thestormishere June 18 2011, 01:47:31 UTC
And what you can do depends on what materia you have.

[ .... Geez, why didn't she try and get a look and/or ask more questions when she had the chance during that draft with Aerith? Aside from the part where she was way too preoccupied with knowing she was about to die, of course. Still, THIS IS A FOREIGN CONCEPT. SHE'S FASCINATED. ]

wingenvy June 18 2011, 01:59:02 UTC
Yeah, that's right. The plus side is that there's a ton of materia out there- and the downside is that even when you have a lot of it, you can only equip so much. I mean, imagine if I had twenty little coloured balls stuck to my clothes all the time? I'd have great spell variety but I'd feel like a bag of marbles!

[Materia's a pretty fun topic to explore, admittedly; the idea of them being strange to someone is strange to him, but so long as no one needs to understand the science of it he's happy to explain.]
