Ok, well, on a slightly postive note,I now have an official diagnosis, so I can apply for disability.

The results are: Chronic Fatigue Syndrome with a postive Epstein-Barr Virus test. Yay!

So, I'm in the doctor's office, and she's telling me the results, looking me over, and she looks down my throat and starts making 'oh, that's not good' sounds. Well, I have a mild sore throat, low fever, swollen glands...I figured, it's either the weather causing CFS symptoms, or it's just yet another minor virus the kids brought home...

So then she says "I think you may have an active case of mono, right now".

She sends me off for tests. I get one of them back while I'm waiting...it's not strep throat. Well, good, that would have been a pain in the ass. I'm supposed to get the other test result today. She prescribed a month-long course of antibiotics AND an anti-viral called Famvir which is used to treat shingles (related to chicken-pox) and less mentionable strains of herpesvirus. Epstein-Barr is apparently in the herpesvirus family, so I get to go get this thing filled at the pharmacy, where they will probably think I have an STD.

What fun.

Oh, so, yesterday I had this small sore on the back edge of my tongue...get those sometimes when I'm sick, a lot of people do, annoying but no big deal. Except, I wake up this morning, and the edges of my tongue, all the way around, are covered with them...it hurts to swallow and I can't talk straight. WTF??

With my luck, I have hoof and mouth. Just shoot me now. A bit of web research that mouth sores are common with EBV infection. Spiffy.

Oh, and just so you all don't feel left out, most of the population has had this virus, and once you contract it, it never REALLY goes away...it just hangs out, dormant, in your system, waiting for an opportunity to strike again....

So...here I wait, until my roomie returns and I can get the prescription filled...

Later that same day: So, I tested negative for active EBV. I don't believe it, personally. Oh, well, I'm now taking antivirals and antibiotics, so everything should die, right?
