Boyfriend talked me into trying Fire Emblem Awakening. I have never played this series before.

Slightly concerned that you start out stabbing what I can only guess is your cute anime boyfriend with a big light spear thing.

can he not die please, he is cute

fire emblem, what is this

ONE OF US, ONE OF US! As a Fire Emblem fan, I will be very interested to hear what you think of Awakening!

He is not (necessarily) your anime boyfriend. He can be though, if that's what you want. ;)

Several chapters in, some of my impressions are:

- This game is a giant potpourri of feels. Was not expecting this, but it's very engaging. One minute there's a major sad plot point and the next minute two people are proposing to each other.
- Cute anime boyfriend is now husband. The proposal scene was everything I expected (besides the hyperventilating on his part, HAH). I did actually do some research on who should marry who and whatever and decided this was a good idea for Several Reasons.
- The characters are fun and have distinct designs and personalities. There are only a few I dislike.
- The villians are huge assholes and it makes me want to keep playing so I can punch them in the nuts.
- GOOD GAME

I'm glad that you're enjoying it!

If you think this game has a lot of feels, you should play the other Fire Emblem games. Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn in particular gave me endless feels forever.

The first time playing through the FE Awakening, I had no idea that Chrom would get married so early. He ended up marrying my most hated female character and I was like "wait, Chrom, what are you doing?" Ever since then I usually pair him with Sully or Olivia because I like their proposal conversations.

I'm adopting a new series oh noooo (yes I will try those after this one, thank you thank you)

Also glad to hear Chrom's marriage deadline is considered "early" because I haven't really been able to feel out how long this game is going to be. Most other stuff I've played, there was a general sense of how much there was to do. This is all new territory, and I want it to last. :D

The game is 25 or 26 chapters long iirc, and the later chapters don't go by as quickly as the earlier ones. Most FE games are around 21-26 chapters in length.

FE Awakening also has 23 shorter bonus chapters you can play once you unlock certain conditions. And there are DLC chapters, if you're into that type of thing. (I haven't tried the DLC chapters yet because Pokemon has been using up all my spending money.) Basically, FE Awakening lasts however long you want it to last! Every time I thought I was almost done with the game, something new would pop up.
