Camp Nanowrimo Day 3 and I have finally gotten into the swing of things!
Warning: In the spirit of Camp Nanowrimo, I am just going to ramble on a little bit and not really care at all about word choice or grammar etc.
So I wrote a little bit on Friday (the first day of the month) and really struggled with the voice of the scene, which was not at all any fun. Then yesterday, I was busy with work and my grandpa's birthday dinner and a late-night Holy Musical Batman / White Collar party with my friend Sarah, which meant I didn't get anything written then. Luckily, I've pushed past the minor block I was faced with early this afternoon and have now gotten into my story. Switching the voice into first person (from various characters' points of view) has really helped.
Speaking of, I've now been able to write a bit of three of my characters' povs. There's one other character who has yet to show up, so I haven't tried her voice out yet, but the others have been quite fun. For instance, I've learned that Landon is closest to my generic first person writing style. Brooklyn tends to focus on critiquing things. And Lucy rambles about anything and everything. (Which is going to be a blast in terms of word count and a headache in terms of editing. WHY do I do this to myself?)
To see what I mean:
"Tonight, I had a mission and it all hinged on Roger sticking to his schedule. I’d waited by the door to my room, watching until the light had turned off in his room. Then, just to be sure, I counted down another whole fifteen minutes so he’d been well and truly asleep. After all, I’d read somewhere that it takes exactly fourteen minutes to fall asleep and I thought I’d tack another minute on just to be safe.
Finally and at last, it was go-time. I tightened the belt on my housecoat, pulled Elliot off the bed, and crept out into the hall. Elliot’s my panda. He’s not a real one, of course. All the real ones live in China."
So this should be fun.

Oh yeah, and I kinda missed posting RLTE on Thursday. Which just goes to show that as soon as I make a schedule for anything, I'm going to mess it up.
