So, back when the Narnia Big Bang Challenge was underway, I was talking with snitchnipped about adding a “behind the scenes” section of the story. One of the reasons for this is because I come up with elements of the plot

what was the scene of the girl in the mist like? What did you have in mind because I don't really see it in the context of the greater caper which is so light-hearted and fun, for all that someone is trying to kill them. So, I'm curious how it might have fit in the story and where.

Well, I was planning on going into that more when I got to the chapter it would have occurred in when Jill and Eustace are climbing through the caves. You're right, too - it really didn't fit. (Hence, the cut.) Mostly, it's because I'd planned it back when my fic was going to be very heavy and serious with a touch of wonder and angst. Which obviously didn't happen in the end.

Basically, what happens is Eustace has passed out and Jill doesn't know the way out of the caves, but then a figure seemingly made out of mist appears and offers directions. And it turns out that this isn't actually a mist-creature, but a place where time doesn't match up properly (so Jill's seeing someone from the past, and this someone is seeing Jill from the future sort of thing). I really like the general idea of it, but again, it didn't end up fitting the tone at all. I do want to go back and write a variation on the scene at some point, though.
