Hotel Dusk: Room 215 is such an awesome game. I love the way it's held like a book, I love the art style and the music and the characters all lending themselves to the atmosphere of a beat up old hotel in the middle of nowhere in the '70's. Some of the music is cheery, lending you to feel summarily creeped out because you know something's strange around this place, and the actual creepy music is ... just whoa. Like, instantly when the character says, "Actually, he's dead." or some other intense statement, the music shuts off, and the absence is blaring in the best way possible. Then it continues on, with low beats and just this "monster's creeping up on the victim" feeling. Then the art. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. The style is amazing, and lends itself to detail well. And it's so fitting. I like the characters a lot, especially Kyle which is a good thing considering he's the main character. He can be really cute, or really gruff, or both or not. He has such a wide range of emotions I really can't explain it right now. And the story itself? I haven't finished it yet, but oh wow. I mean, other than the oddity of playing for three hours and only ten minutes pass in the game, it flows really well. There is the occasional mentioning of something you've already heard that's repeated just in case you had foolishly put the game down for a while, but otherwise everything unravels itself in the same way an actual mystery novel would. Which just makes it delicious. So, all in all, this is a favorite. By far. Bada-bing-bada-boom.
Also, Kyle never dug the ladies. *snicker* <3
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin is practically just as good as the first DS installment, and I'm so sad I haven't really heard/played this series until its debut in Nintendo's duel screen handheld's life. The first one, Dawn of Sorrow, I loved, and still play even now, two years after its release. With this second one, while I'm kinda sad at the soullessness of it all, thus getting rid of that 100+ long, unforgivingly fun task of collecting every single one of the souls--even the useless ones--it's still great in its own rights. I actually like the two-person controls, despite my first assumption that I was going to dislike having to switch characters, and all that. But I've grown fond of both Johnathan and Charlotte, and enjoy using both of them together, instead of only one or another. They seem to work best for me that way. Plus, it's like a non-worthless familiar following you and not taking up all that much of your SP, even though occasionally if I'm using my special attacks more often then normal, they tend to randomly die and sit there and it's like, "whoops...."
I also have Contact. What a cute game! It's like an RPG, just that you're stuck on an island (for a while at least) and you don't have 100% control over your character's fighting abilities. He attacks on his own, which is nice for me, but otherwise he is mine. I really like the game's humor; it's quirky and fun without seeming to try too hard to be unique, and I like the art for the costumes. I haven't played this enough yet, but I haven't yet found another way to find the pictures after the first time you see them when you get the outfit. They're really cool, too... Anyway, yea. More playing of this must commence.
I finally decided to splurge and get the Final Fantasy III guide, because I've been stuck in the same place for way too long. -___-;; But now I have pictures of all the jobs for all the characters, EEE!!!! <3 <3 <3 <3! So, yea. Refia is sooo going to be kitty, mmhmmhmm.... Actually, I was considering configuring my party the same way the special DS Lite art is configured after, but I'm not so sure. I don't think any of those characters are in the thief costume, and I know I want that one... also, Arc. Stop being so cute. It's distracting. Still.
I've actually been playing Mario Kart more. It's still a game that I sometimes thing is fun and sometimes thing is frustrating. But that's because I'm trying to get trophies in a specific pattern (Waluigi on 50cc, Luigi on 100cc, Waluigi again on 150cc) and at the highest level I can get. I decided on two stars, because I can get that frequently enough, but I've only gotten three stars once, and ma---n...
So yea. DS = major win. Enough to satisfy me while I am Wiiless and PS3less. D,:
