Can I just say that I'm not a big fan of EA Games right now? So back in June I purchased an expansion pack for the Sims 2 - called Free Time. And I love that expansion pack - it adds so much to the game. Well somewhere around September I lost the first disk. I always assumed it was in our computer that died but we recently discovered that it wasn't in there like I thought. Now because of the way EA Games daisy-chains the expansion packs I can't play the sims 2 or the other earlier expansion pack that I have without uninstalling Free Time because that missing disk is now the disk I need to play the game as a whole. No other disk will work (because its the latest and greatest or some garbage). So I registered my game back in June and I should have some kind of a warranty in place so I contact EA Games about getting a replacement disk. No can do as their warranty policy doesn't cover lost disks. They basically tell me that my only option is to buy the latest expansion pack (there is only one after Free Time) or re-buy the expansion pack I bought so I can have the disk (of course no matter what I lose all of my game data). Talk about frustration. And the latest and last expansion pack for the Sims 2 is the Apartment Life one and I don't want it. First because I've lived in an apartment and while it was a nice time of my life I don't really want to recreate that. Second it adds magic and witchcraft to the game. Wonderful. I don't want that on my computer thanks.
So guess what I'm doing this weekend? Cleaning out our office in hopes of finding that disk. I kind of like organizing things so I'm looking forward to it and to getting our files in order since I haven't done filing in a while and taxes are coming up.
There is one piece of good news though - all of the expansion packs appear to be on sale for $20 at best buy which is half of what they normally are. So if I can't find the disk I may luck out (and anyway I'm psyched because there are two more earlier expansion packs I want that I wasn't willing to pay $40 for...so I may save up for those).
So now I'm just trying to decide. Do I get the 2 expansion packs I want or do I put the money towards the refurbished Mac I'm saving for...hmmm...choices, choices.
