Summary: After a strange sighting, Hyukjae finds himself watching Jongwoon carefully, trying to figure out if what he saw was real or not. Of course they couldn't be real, right? It was something extraordinary and sureal and yet Hyukjae couldn't help but wonder. Is Jongwoon really an angel?
Hyukjae watched as Jongwoon sang; his hands pressed against the sides of his head phones, singing powerfully into the microphone. His voice matched perfectly with the music and the younger boy couldn’t help but tap his foot along with the beat. There was always one thing Hyukjae liked about watching his hyung sing, and that of course was the cute little expressions he made.
The way he’d scrunch his nose when he was reaching a high pitch, the way he’d use his hands as he got absorbed into the song, everything. That and Jongwoon really did have a beautiful voice. Yesung; ‘Voice of an artist” really did suit the young man.
Sungmin poked Hyukjae’s arm, scribbling something on a piece of paper before showing it to him. The brunette grinned and nodded. The two boys had always had just a small crush on Jongwoon and whenever he was due to go to the recording studio, Sungmin and Hyukjae always tagged along just to listen to him sing. Hyukjae smiled at the note before taking the pen in his own hand, scribbling something back in response to Sungmin. Covering his mouth, the black haired boy stifled a laugh as he pulled the paper back in front of him. Hyukjae smiled as he ran a hand through his brown hair, looking up briefly before looking back down; suddenly he froze and had to do a double take.
Hyukjae stopped; his hand dropping beside him, his mouth agape. He stared at Jongwoon almost embarrassingly; his eyes bearing into the other person’s body like fire withering a piece of paper. Sungmin, who was completely oblivious to what happened, looked to his dongsaeng before raising a brow. He looked to Jongwoon then back to Hyukjae, poking his arm.
He blinked once, twice and then began to rub his eyes before he had begun to stare again. Had he really seen that? On Jongwoon? Or was he just hallucinating? Looking down at Sungmin, he was surprised when the raven haired boy stared back up at him in confusion.
“Are you okay?” Sungmin mouthed. Was it just him, or did Hyukjae look seriously spooked? Or maybe amazed? He couldn’t really tell but the expression was somewhere in between.
Hyukjae opened his mouth to say something when the song ended; Jongwoon was already putting on his baseball cap and jacket to meet the two boys. Sungmin jumped up from his chair and waved to him excitedly as the other stepped into the room.
“You did a good job, Yesungie!” Sungmin said in a chipper voice, his hands clasped in front of him as he beamed at the other boy. Jongwoon smiled and nodded, “Thank you.” He said with a sincere smile, “Are you two ready to go out for lunch?” he asked as he slipped on his jacket before catching Hyukjae’s gaze. He tilted his head and a hand brushed over his own cheek, “Is there something on my face?” Jongwoon was confused; Hyukjae was quite literally staring at the boy.
Shaking his head, Hyukjae laughed and went over to Jongwoon, “Sorry! Hyung, lets go get food!” He said happily.
Sungmin grabbed his jacket and pulled it on as he walked for the door, Jongwoon walking promptly behind him. The youngest was left there, staring at Jongwoon’s back. They were gone now, or were they even there in the first place?
“…Wings?” Hyukjae murmured to himself before running to catch up with the oldest boy. “So! Where are you treating us to, Yesungie?” he asked with a big smile as he patted the other boys’ back as if trying to confirm that, no, he had not seen wings on Jongwoon. Boy, he needed to get more rest, was he really starting to hallucinate now?
Jongwoon looked at Eunhyuk surprised before laughing, “Ehh? Who said I was treating?”

“Why do you keep staring at me, Eunhyuk?”
Hyukjae looked up, startled for a moment before feeling his cheeks suddenly start to burn. “Uh, sorry!” He said before looking down at his plate. It’d been a week since his first strange sighting and ever since then, if the younger boy looked up at just the right moment, they would appear. Those heavenly angelic wings would grace themselves around Jongwoon who then seemed equally as angelic. It was strange, because they would appear for no more then just a couple of seconds, but when it did happen, the sight was etched into Hyukjae’s mind like he’d been burned with it. The sight was beautiful and suited Jongwoon perfectly. Imagine if he was really an angel, wouldn’t that be something?
Or maybe Hyukjae just needed more sleep.
Pushing his chair back, he neatly placed his bowl on top of his plate, “Thank you for the food, I’m going to go for a walk.” He said simply before exiting the dining room; deciding that getting some fresh air would be good for him. Sungmin watched him curiously before looking over to their leader. Jungsoo returned Sungmin’s curious gaze before smiling. “Jongwoon-ah, shouldn’t you go talk to Hyukjae?”
Jongwoon glanced at Jungsoo, a little surprised he’d used his real name, but nodded, “Sometimes I forget he doesn’t know.” He said with a soft chuckle. Sungmin nodded before putting his chopsticks beside his bowl.
“Do you think he’s actually seen them?” Sungmin asked. In all the years he’s known Jongwoon and known his secret, not once did he ever see those wings. “He must be really confused; do we have to tell him?”
“This isn’t the time to be playing a joke on him.” Ryeowook said softly. Sungmin turned to him, opening his mouth to say something before the other interrupted him, “He must be really confused, I mean, even I don’t believe it sometimes and Yesung was the one that told me…”
“Well, I wasn’t seriously thinking of not telling him…” Sungmin said as his chin dropped. Jongwoon looked around the dining table and smiled, pushing his chair back as well, he got up, “I’ll go talk to him.”
Hyukjae kicked at the rocks underneath his feet in frustration. He was feeling fine, more then fine! He’d been resting as much as he could and it wasn’t as if his body wasn’t used to the lack of sleep each day, or maybe this was a for sure sign that he was getting sick! “Maybe I should ask manager hyung for a few days off…” He said quietly to himself, who was he kidding? He had a lot scheduled for the next few months, there was absolutely no way that he’d be able to get time off. It’d be the same for the other members as well…
He came to a stop at an empty park. Looking around, Hyukjae decided to sit on the grass. Laying his legs out in front of him, he sighed heavily before throwing himself back onto the lush grass. He lay there for a bit, thinking of possibilities as to what’s been happening. Perhaps he was beginning to get mentally sick? Maybe he should ask Sungmin to go to the doctors with him…
“Eunhyuk?”
Startled, Hyukjae looked up to see Jongwoon walking towards him. The wind blowing around him as it carried his hair around his face, his loose clothing dancing around him. Hyukjae sat up and waved, “Hyung, what are you doing outside?”
The raven haired boy reached Hyukjae and sat down close to him, “I was looking for you. Have you been alright?” He looked at the younger Asian boy with worry and concern; he wondered what his dongsaeng thought of him, that is, if he was really seeing what Sungmin had referred to earlier.
Hyukjae caught the look in Jongwoon’s eyes and he wished that he hadn’t acted so strangely. He didn’t mean to worry him; Hyukjae was just… confused and curious. Ashamed, he looked at his hands, his thumbs fiddling idly with each other. He didn’t know what to say to Jongwoon, what could he say without sounding like a nut job? ‘Oh hey, do you have wings?’, yeah, that might not go down so well.
“Hyukjae… you know if something’s wrong you can tell me. Or if you have something you really want to ask me you can… I keep you and the other members almost as close to my heart as my real family, you know that.” Jongwoon said softly in his soft husky voice, placing a hand on Hyukjae’s shoulder and squeezing lightly in reassurance.
“Do you believe in angels?” Hyukjae almost felt as if he were about to die, he didn’t know why and the feeling was strange but he just felt so embarrassed. Wasn’t Jongwoon Catholic?
“Actually, I do.” The older boy said, a smile forming on his lips, “do you believe in angels is a better question.” He said with a chuckle.
Hyukjae sat there, thinking. “Yes… I do.” He paused and looked at his friend, “I believe there sent here to protect us and in their own way… love us.”
Jongwoon nodded and laughed, “Yeah, I believe that too.”
There was silence. Neither boy said a word but that’s when he realized it. All these years, Hyukjae never would have guessed that someone so close to him was an angel. “I’m glad you’re my hyung.” He laughed nervously before looking away. From the corner of his eye, he could see that Jongwoon was laughing as well but then when the feathery wings appeared, Hyukjae couldn’t help but stare. There it was and for more then just a few seconds.
Jongwoon had a pair of the most beautiful wings ever; they were big to show strength and as white as snow, showing just how pure he was. In some cases, Hyukjae thought he should have been scared but he felt at peace, and comfortable. Jongwoon smiled at him as he glanced around them, his wings forming around the two boys as if protecting them. He smiled as he slipped an arm around Hyukjae’s shoulders.
The younger boy inhaled slowly before he smiled, “Please keep protecting me, hyung…”
