Today was easily the laziest day all trip. I went to bed around 2 AM (I think), woke up at 4 because Michelle had to get up to peace out of the country (haha, she sounds like a fugitive), and went back to sleep until 9 when the phone rang once. It rang once again around 11, but when I asked my mom if she'd tried calling me earlier, she said no. So I dunno what that was about. For awhile, I tried helping my mom out with checking in for tomorrow's flight online, but the British Airways site is a butt and still won't let me check in for the second half of my trip (from Heathrow to Baltimore). Mom's all set, but I might get stranded in London (but hopefully that won't be the case).
We ended up eating lunch at the hotel, which has way-overpriced food (I was considering getting a smoked salmon and goat cheese sandwich, until I realized that it cost the equivalent of 20 US dollars. A $20 sandwich, ftw.). I ended up getting some tasty spinach and ricotta ravioli in herb emulsion, which tided me over until about 10 PM (when we ate dinner). Considering that we ate around 2 PM, and that I normally get hungry every four hours, that was a hefty amount of pasta that I ingested. After that, we went back up to the room and I had a long-ass nap (but I still feel bed-ready right now...awesome).
When I got up, I surfed the internets for a bit, and then we went to see the Spanish Steps and the Piazza somethingerother (it has a fountain carved by Bernini). The view from the Spanish Steps was quite nice, but I'll admit, I was more fascinated by portrait-drawing than the view. :P I think the guy who was getting drawn was vaguely weirded out by the fact that I was standing and watching him be drawn for so long. At some point, I'd like to get another portrait (I had one done yeeears ago in NYC) done of me, just so I can see how others view me (because I have this perception of how I look, and I'm curious as to how it compares to other people's perceptions).
After we'd gotten our fill of the Spanish Steps, we took a taxi to that Piazza I mentioned earlier and observed the fountain. There were these guys who were trying to sell light up...things (let's call them rings for lack of a better term). Basically, they would slide them down a stick with spirals, kind of like a screw, and then they would spin them really fast so that they'd shoot up into the air. It was fun to watch. Around 10 PM, we decided to eat at a restaurant in the piazza, where I had my third fettucine alfredo all trip. Of the three, this one was my least favorite, but I guess they can't all be fantastic (although I wouldn't complain if they were).
I leave Rome tomorrow (at 11:45 AM) for Heathrow, and I dunno what time my flight from Heathrow departs. But, I'll be home around 7:30 PM. Maybe. Soon enough, I'll be back to the land where I only post an entry about once every three months. Oh baby. Also, the internet's gonna cut out soon, so I'm gonna ditch. Italy, it's been fun.
