Thursday - 5/13
Driving from Pennsylvania to North Carolina has always been a bitch, but I didn't realize just how bad it was until I was the one driving. Well, to be fair, my sister did the majority of the driving, but it was still a pain in the ass. And long. And tiring. And hot (and humid once we got far enough south) because the car's AC doesn't work.
Still, it worked out. My sister and I are sleeping at different places, so we eventually decided I'd take the car and I dropped her off at her childhood friend's house. Her friend, who I babysat when she was younger, has grown up to be an absolutely beautiful young woman. I'm really glad she's doing well. Anyway, I dropped my sister off and stopped by Aneki's house - she turned out to not be home, so I only startled her dad and talked for a minute while petting their dog.
I'm at the place where I'll be staying the night now, and I got to pet their dogs and their two horses. Horses! I haven't gotten to pet any since about elementary school or so. ♥ For all that I hate the spring/summer weather down here, with the awful humidity and the armies of biting insects, I still miss the atmosphere and the scenery. It's really nice to be back.
Friday - 5/14
I spent part of the day running around with Aneki, and part just wandering around. I got a chance to talk with her for a while, and my sister and I got a chance to visit the synagogue and see our old rabbi.
I don't know what to say, really. It was exhausting, mostly due to the weather, I think. I will have to give a toast or whatever tomorrow and say lovely things about Aneki, which will not be hard, but I'd really like to say those lovely things without stumbling over myself, which may be more difficult. I've thought of a few different things to bring up and I'll just go with the flow from there, I guess.
It helps that she's not really getting married tomorrow - technically they've been married for five months and this is just a vow renewal. But still, the big shindig. I'm looking forward to it!
Afterwards:
Everything was beautiful, and the trip home was uneventful.
*before the wedding*
Me: Okay, if I have to walk down stairs in these heels, I will die and ruin the wedding.
JC's Dad: Do you have sneakers or sandals? You could wear those.
Me: Um, JC specifically said no sneakers or flip-flops...
Toki: *wearing what looked like black and purple Converses* It's fine, don't worry.
Me: ...Okay.
And so, I wore sneakers and my sister wore flip-flops. No one told me I'd have to take JC-aneki's bouquet, so that startled me, and then the flower girl handed me hers as well and asked me to pick her up, then promptly ran off. My sister spent a very funny moment trying to unobtrusively swat a bee with her own bouquet.
On the way home, my sister kept taking pictures of various signs.
Sister: It says 'Dumfries'!
Me: I think that's pronounced 'dum-freeze', not 'dumb-fries'.
Sister: Shut up. I wonder how you make Dumfries?
Me: You use Dumpotatoes?
Later:
Sister: ...and it said 'Dumfries!'
Dad: I think that's 'dum-freeze'.
Sister: STOP RUINING MY HAPPY MOMENTS.
I am leaving for Philly in the morning, then NYC the day after.
