Appearance: PB Eduardo Verastegui : [Actor/actress name or N/A if fanart is used for icons]
Wt: 210 Pounds, Height: 6 foot, Build: athletic Species: Human
Kohl appears to be in his mid-late 30s with black hair that's kept short. His eyes are brown with lighter flecks in them, depending on the light. He has a muscular build that is most commonly seen on construction workers instead of body builders. His skin shade looks tanned, like he lived in the mediteranean.
There is a celtic dragon tattoo on his right arm with the mouth on the top of his hand an the tail curled up his arm, ending just past the elbow. Kohl has multiple scars on his body, many looking like they were once bite marks or scratches. There are a few obvious ones that may disturb other people if they saw them. One is on the inside of his right forearm, about three inches across and running parallel to his wrist. The second is a large star burst scar on his left pectoral region that is very pale and appears to have been painful at one time. Kohl is extremely self conscious about this one, for some reason.
Personality On the surface, Kohl has the perfect mix of Grumpy Bouncer, Wounded Hero, Sorrowful Martyr, Reformed Saint and Quirky Dude.
Kohl is not a people person. Generally speaking, shiny happy people who are perpetually optimistic will make Kohl even more grumpy, sullen and waspish. He prefers solitude and his independence, which usually means that Kohl hermits himself away in his garage and tinkering on his cars.
However, his family refuses to let him hide in his 'cave' with is 'horde' all day long without some sort of human contact. As he's forced to attend to daily matters, Kohl will act pleasant enough and be civil to most people. Those who appear stupid and try his patience will be met with curt responses and eventually he will ignore them. His aura of irritation will increase at that point. In fact there's rarely a time where he doesn't give people the creeps.
When he's around people he knows and trusts, Kohl is a calmer man and the intimidating feeling is lessened, but not completely gone. He'll even show his own quirky humor and not mind when others laugh at him. Gaining that trust is anything but easy, and there are times where it will seem nearly impossible. Even if he doesn't trust a person, they might not find the truth out until much later. He'll keep his manners well enough and easily follows the philosophy of 'hating everyone equally.'
When someone finally does gain Kohl's trust, he's a loyal friend who will go to great lengths to protect them and make certain they're safe. Once upon a time he was a great strategist and utilizes those skills to keep his loved ones safe. He's fiercely protective of his children and will readily protect any child, especially if they aren't afraid of him. If children do show fear, he won't press the issue of becoming a safe friend.
Upon his arrival, Kohl will be as cooperative as he can be, given the circumstances. He will NOT be pleased that he was suddenly sucked into a new dimension, and he will also be fully aware that he's not 'home.' Kohl's attitude to the guards will be civil, and much of that will be in order to keep himself from getting shot, since his intimidation levels would probably be going through the roof. He'll have little to no surprise or shocked reactions to the diversity of the Gate Walkers. He will be dismayed about the conditions of the city, and while he's hanging out, waiting to be rescued, will offer his services to improve the place.
Once within Veles, Kohl won't necessarily focused on the Gate. He will completely believe that someone will discover he's missing and will be rescued by his family members. For him, dimensional travel and time warping is common to him and won't be agitated when others state he's 'trapped' there. Zombies will leave a bad taste in his mouth, reminding him of the days when he used to fight them in another form.
Powers/Abilities CANON: -Kohl has an athletic build and reasonable strength. While he's stronger than the average human, he does not have superhuman strength and must work out in order to keep his muscle tone.
-He has a decent mechanical ability and understand of How Engines Work. His specialty lies in racing car engines. He works on, fabricates and constructs old racers and prefers non-American models. He has slightly better than average knowledge and compentancy in maintaining truck or smaller cylinder motors (aka motorcycles and lawn mowers.)
While Kohl has a human body, his core body temperature is much higher than the Average human. Normally, his body temperature is around 100 degrees and only affects him in a negative manner when it's cold outside. The cold will affect him as it does a normal human, but more acutely due to his higher core temperature.
DRAGON FEAR. Kohl has one super human ability. When people are in the same room, they feel uneasy as if someone's watching them or a malevolent spirit is close by. More than likely, this level of uneasiness is caused by an abnormally high Electromagnetic Field that comes from Kohl's body. The more stressed, cranky or frustrated Kohl is, the more uneasy people become. He's been known to clear out entire rooms with this ability. It is not something he can voluntarily control or shut off, but he does try to dampen its affects by being more calm and zen about situations. It serves no other purpose than to be an annoyance to people.
Powers/Abilities AU:
Since his physique is created through training and his knowledge is a learned experience, they will not be affected. However, Kohl's knowledge of engines are geared more towards modern vehicles, and will need to research era 1950s engines in order to be proficient with them. There is no power skill to his increased body temperature, so that will remain unchanged. He also is multilingual, but the other languages he knows (besides English) are from other planets and are not known to Native Terrestrials.
The Dragon Fear will be reduced to the following: Instead of entire rooms being unnerved, only people within a five foot radius will be affected. The angrier he becomes, the more agitated those people will be but the radius will not increase. This ability has no benefit in terms of increasing agility, stamina, healing or causing damage, so I don't know if he can be exhausted by the Gate if he becomes enraged for a long period of time.
Character History:
This character's history is going to be split between Physical Body and Soul History. Because I am that insane.
Physical History
A long, long time ago (in an RP far, far away,) which turns out to be around the year 2000 women became enamored by a cult TV show called LEXX. More specifically, the object of their affection was the Undead Divine Assassin of His Shadow, Kai of the Brunnen G. In this incarnation of Earth, it was discovered that the LEXX was not a fictional show, but in truth an actual ship from the Light Universe. The inhabitants have visited Earth several times, giving birth the idea to the show LEXX. During one such visit, Kai (who will now be called The Original from now on) offered samples of his Undead DNA to the women so that they too may develop their very own 'Kai Clone.' These women banded together for protection and to be able to grow their clones in secretsy, formed the group APEC: All Powerful Estrogen Cloud. And yes, like any good fairytale adventure, they lived in a castle.
When these Clones are first created, they are given numbered designations if they are from APEC. Later, when the clone develops their own unique personality, they are name by their Mistress like a second name. Not every Kai Clone, however, obtains a number designation. Usually it's because they're not Ani-Kai or APEC Clones.
These wise women were not the only one who wanted their very own Kai Clones. There were others, rogues, for lack of a better term, and stragglers who desired their own Clones, but did not qualify to receive one of APEC's authentic Clones. One of these rogue warriors managed to steal some of APEC's genetic material and created their own Kai's. These Clones were programmed to destroy APEC and to steal their chocolate. The not APEC Clones were called Anti-Kais.
Kai Clones were much like their illustrious predecessor with bodies of de-carbonized flesh, metal implants including a brace weapon that shoots out from the right forearm and a programming panel over the left sides of their chests. They are equipped with a stoic nature and common phrases that The Original would say, but they were also programmed with the ability to develop unique characteristics in their personalities that would match their Mistresses ( the women who were given a Clone) perfectly. They had few complications in their undead lives. Clones were programmed to protect their Mistresses and share in personal, intimate rituals that were called Chocolate Traditions. Although 'the dead do not eat,' these undead creatures could and were given the ability to enjoy and crave chocolate.
However, Clones could not survive on chocolate alone. Like The Original, their bodies functioned on a substance called 'protoblood.' This substance could only be obtained in the Light Universe. The Mistresses for some time needed to store their Kai Clones in Cryo chambers until a suitable substitute could be create. Mountain Dew was found to have similar properties to protoblood, but made Clones aggressive, murderous, and often times insane. A substitute protoblood was manufactured, but the formula was unstable, and the Clones needed to use it more often than the original product. The Mistresses then developed ProtoBecks, which sustained the Clones, but gave them the feeling of intoxication.
There was one such clone who had been created from the genetic material of an APEC clone and an Anti-Kai. At first, his origin was unknown, even to him and therefore his designation became UnknownKai. While he did not know where he came from, he had all of the basic functions of a clone with an added twist: Unknown had a phobia of wrist watches. Every time Unknown was around a wrist watch, he would become terrified and do everything within his power to destroy it.
A young woman running from the law from her own world befriend the clone and become friends with him. She didn't feel it was right that people were creating clones for their own selfish purposes. After all, each body required a soul to live in (even if the body was from a cold, undead assassin) and pulling these souls from somewhere was not a good thing.
As time wore on, Unknown's origins were slowly brought to light. A man by the name of Dr Monrou had created an elite force of Undead Assassins for world domination. In attempts to help Unknown regain some of his young clone memories, he had some of his friends (PsyKai 68 and DracoKai 69) traveled to Dr Monrou's hide out, discovered his plans for infiltrating APEC castle to destroy the Ladies of APEC and destroyed his headquarters. As being one of Monrou's clones, Unknown was programmed with a secret assassin killer code. If someone used the phrase "It's a Rolex," Unknown's currently developed personality would be overridden and his assassin programming would kick in. Whomever uttered the phrase would be able to control Unknown and order him to kill anyone they desired.
Unknown lived (as much as an undead assassin could live) in relative peace after, serving his Mistress (who refused to be called 'mistress') and developing a personality that was not like The Original. Unknown developed a taste for collecting bottles, rebuilding fast cars and training birds of prey. During his time with his Mistress, he had helped her in many adventures, with the most important one was regaining a living body.
His Mistress was not a native to Earth, but a dimensional traveler from a world called Atlean. She had come to Earth seeking refuge from people who wanted her dead and found a relatively safe niche in the outskirts of KaiTown. They lived for a time in APEC castle, but decided to move out on their own. They were given a section of land that was originally a portion of THE DEN, prairie land owned by Mistress Wolfie and PsyKai. This land was soon known as Alicorn Project, a refugee and rehabilitation center for abanded and abused wildlife. The DEN became a buffer zone between APEC castle, Kai Town and Realityville, the 'real world town' where clones and their Mistresses found discrimination and animosity.
Unknown's Mistress, Arista, was a necromancer and held the secret to returning a dead body to life, which she offered to Unknown. With her own life force and ancient rituals from her own homeworld, she was able to grant Unknown a living body, but the results were not what any of them expected. The Original's body was de-carbonized and implants had been inserted into the body to improve performance. The clones had the same de-carbonized form with implants that were identical to The Original's. As Unknown's body began to 're-carbonize' it also started to reject the implants and force them outside of the body. Unknown soon no longer had the brace that could shoot out from his right arm and the control panel that the Mistresses used fell away, leaving behind a giant scar over the left side of his chest where his heart was. For weeks other implants were pulled from his body like boils and bot fly maggots, making Unknown unbelievably ill until it was over. In the end he gained an elevated body temperature (or if it was normal for Brunnen G, it was never confirmed,) darker skin and eye color and a second name. Kohl.
Once he became alive, Arista and Kohl grew even closer and fell in love. He adopted her customs, becoming Promised to one another in the equivalent of Marriage. Arista bore two children, one by another man against her will and a second sired by Kohl. Many adventures followed the family after, up to and including the discovery of Kohl's true soul, the people of Atlean commonly known as Kirin, and the daily family responsibilities of raising his children in a place that was more fiction than truth, where Realityville was concerned. When Kohl arrives in Veles, Hawke will be four and Wren will be almost two.
Soul History
Kohl's soul is that of a black assassin dragon from the world Atlean. Millennia ago, he was the leader of a military group of dragons who was meant to protect the living dragons from undead ones called Kakariki. This knowledge was only known by the leaders of the dragons called the Circle. He was knocked down from his position in the midst of a coup and government conspiracy that transcended from humans all the way to the other intelligent peoples of the world. There was a war in where a people was nearly extinguished and relations between them and the humans were destroyed forever.
Before Kohl's death, he was forced to kill his closest friend under the orders of the human Dragon Prince, dethroned from his leadership within the Wing, annihilate a city of the Kirin people, and then was murdered when he refused to serve the Dragon Prince who was intent on murdering every last Kirin on the planet.
Close Relationships
While Unknown has many brothers, there are two he was especially close to. They are APEC cloned, designated 68 and 69. PsyKai was 68, a giant of a clone whose mistress was a small girl who went by the name of Wolfie. Psy often used the Insect Essence, a power of The Original's, to communicate and calm wild animals. Originally, he'd been almost converted to the dark side of clones but with the love of his Mistress, managed to save himself. Psy and Wolfie are owners of the DEN and the land around it. They were kind enough to partition part of that land to Kohl and Arista, giving them a small place to call their own. The land given was also used to create the wild life refuge, Alicorn Project, where Psy is often used as anesthesia for the animals should they need surgery or treatments that would otherwise panic them.
Draco Kai (69) is a young clone who decided to take Unknown under his wing. Light hearted and jovial, Drake is one of the few people who can keep Unknown in line. Draco is the Clone to the Mistress Darla, another petite woman with a secretive, coy smile. Out of all the clones, Unknown considers Drake to be his brother, and rarely does he go off on his own without Drake knowing. Drake, in turn, makes certain the 'grumpy dragon' doesn't get too annoying or brood himself into a depression.
Arista Starfyr is Unknown's Mistress. A woman from a different world than Earth, she carried a magic that allowed to give Kohl life. She's a spitfire of a woman, head strong and rarely accepts failure. She has a good heart and always wishes the best outcome for all. Being near Unknown gives each other a sense of peace, especially since Arista has a heavy dose of wanderlust in her blood. Unknown understands this, and while he doesn't stifle it, he does try to temper her somewhat so she doesn't throw all caution to the wind. After all, his primary function is to keep his Mistress safe, regardless of whether she wants to hold that title.
Darla is the Mistress to DracoKai. She's an Earth native and feels a strong connection to Arista and Kohl. Kohl affectionately calls her Sprite. She's also another person who is one of the few who can tolerate Kohl, and like Arista, is able to soothe his agitation and foul attitude towards others.
World Background:
Earth, as we know it has the same history as the Earth Kohl is from. This Earth holds no special powers and is considered to be a 'dead world' by most magical practitioners. The only place that seems to hold any sort of magical ability is APEC, Kai Town and the DEN. These areas are hidden corner of the United States called Anytown, USA. One would think that this city is a figment of one's imagination because the only time Anytown is seen is on sample credit cards and 'how to fill out' application form slots. But this place is real! It even has its own zipcode! 12345. However, Anytown, USA still remains an enigma. It exists, but exactly where it's located is known only by its inhabitants. The magic surrounding Anytown and it's various landmarks does not appear to be any set practice of magic, but more like a conglomerate of magical theories that so far have worked together in harmony.
Anytown, USA is the city where APEC castle resides. The land surrounding it holds a very serene, park like setting bordered by a forest. To the east of APEC is Kai Town. It looks very much like any other Americana setting with one interesting difference: the town is mostly inhabited by Clones, Mistresses, and people who don't are that nearly half of the faces in the town look exactly the same.
On the opposite side of APEC lies a huge swatch of property, most of it known as the DEN. In 2002, it was partitioned off to include the non-profit organization, Alicorn Project, as well as provide residence to Arista, Kohl and their family. The area looks more like undeveloped farmland with the DEN itself a building the size of a super Walmart. To the west of the DEN is Realityville.
Realityville is the metropolis sector of Anytown. This appears to be the 'normal' portion of Anytown, looking much like any other city. Realityville in general frowns upon Kai Clones, Mistresses and their shenanigans, even going so far as to ban the products Mountain Dew, Protobecks, and chocolate from Kai Town's famous chocolatier. The people of Realityville do not approve of the sprawl of Clones in Kai Town and any Clone or Mistress who enters the city may be subjected to discrimination there.
RP Sample [First Person]:
-=is seated in a chair with every rifle in the room trained on him. He's glaring at everyone, but not moving. Even though he's not moving, the guards appear to be very nervous=-
Look. I already told you people that I have no idea where I am, how I got here, or even why I didn't have any clothing. When I got here. I don't know who the hell any of you are, and I really don't care to. In fact, the lot of you pointing those freakin' pea shooters in my face every time I raise my voice is not keeping me any calmer! And I'm telling you now that if you toss me out into that snow, I'm going to be a very upset person. If my wife or my kids show up in this hell hole, and you treat them like you've done me, you're going to wish very, very hard that you shot me on sight!
Why do you play this character?
Well, it was a toss up between his son Hawke and him. Kohl won the coin toss. But now that I've written out his cracktastic history that makes almost no sense other than it came from a gaming movement in 2000 that made the sci fi magazines and carried no restrictive rules to keep the characters under control, I'll be surprised if you let him in! ^.^
