History:
Not much is known of Cross Marian. Obviously he was born into the world somehow, hopefully by a mother, though who knows with the man. Where he was raised or how is a mystery as well. All that is known about his past is that before he became and Exorcist, Cross was working for The Black Order in their science division.
During his time in the science division, Cross was found to be an accommodater for innocence, his being crafted into the anti-akuma weapon Judgment there after. At some point after becoming an exorcist, he came to know Mana and Neah Walker. Just how close the three were or how they even met has never been explained, though it could be assumed that Cross came to met with Neah due to the later being the fourteenth member of the Noah Clan.
After Neah's rebellion and before his death, he passed his will on to Cross as well as his golden golem, Timcanpy. It should be noted that at this time, Cross also made a promise with him to watch over his older brother, Mana, whom Cross later states lost his mind when his brother died. Making good on his promise, Cross does watch over Mana as the clown travels around preforming, shown by Tim perching in trees behind Mana and Allen.
Christmas Day, shortly after Allen has met Mana, he comes across Cross in a crowd of people that later asks if he's Allen and then tells him to stay away from Mana before disappearing into the crowd. Allen later goes to tell Mana about running into the strange man with red hair and what he said which sends Mana in to a state of distress and causes the man to rush out to find Cross, stating that man could be his little brother.
Later the same day, Cross shows up to the circus after Allen beats Mana and gets put in a cage. There he goes after the akuma and Millennium Earl that had appeared in the performance tent. After the fight, Timcanpy frees Allen from the cage by chewing through the bars while Cross is standing there with the ringmaster and two others on the ground at his feet. Cross then punches Allen, knocking the boy to the floor of the cage before pointing Judgment at him, reprimanding him for staying near Mana. He is stopped from harming Allen further due to Tim getting in the way, giving a halfhearted response that he had run out of bullets. Cross gives Allen another warning before disappearing with Tim.
He shows up again three years later after Mana's death to take Allen in his care, though the boy does not remember him. Mana's death and subsequent transformation into an Akuma had shocked Allen to badly, he became catatonic, leaving the general to care for the boy until he was able to "wake up" again. During this time, Cross cooked for the child, changed him and his bedding and watched over him, occasionally talking to him to try and get him out of his state. He was able to snap the boy out of it when he asked about what Mana always said and went to Mother when the boy finally spoke after months.
In speaking with Mother, he mentioned how he had spent over thirty years looking for Neah's host and even remarked to her how he was speaking like Mana now, rather than his old foul mouthed self. Cross showed little concern for Allen and his status as Neah's host saying, "Once Neah is reborn, it'll be so long to that brat. What happens to 'Allen,' the hell if I care!"
After a few months more of recovery, Cross left with his new apprentice. Just before leaving Mother's, he gave Allen his last name of Walker, to which the child said he didn't deserve it before the man brushed it off and reminded him of the fact he was still moving forward. Over the course of the next four years, Cross and Allen travel around Europe, Africa and then Asia.
During his time with Allen, Cross constantly gambled, spent money on expensive wine and wracked up debt that he left for and even forced his apprentice to pay off. He forced Allen to take up all sorts of odd-jobs to pay for the trail of debt he would leave. Once he found out that Allen was a skilled card player, he started wasting even more money, knowing it was easier for the boy to gain the money back by cheating at cards.
A year before the start of the series, Cross and Allen spent a fair amount of time in India. It was in India that Cross declared that Allen's training under him was over and told him how to get to the European Branch of the Black Order. When questioned if he would be going there with Allen, Cross told the teen he hated going there and knocked him out with a hammer. He left Timcanpy with Allen, alone and stranded in India.
After leaving his apprentice, Cross went to visit Arystar Krory to return a plant he had borrowed from his grandfather years before. The plant was the carnivorous Roseanne which would later bite Krory and give him his Innocence. From there, he made his way to China, meeting up with Anita; brothel owner, supporter and the daughter of a former lover of his. He spent a year in China, eliminating akuma and tracking down the Earl.
Cross made his way to Edo when he came to find that the Earl was ready to move to the new Ark. While General Tiedoll's team as well as his own engaged in a battle with the Noah, it is relieved that Cross slipped into the Ark with Timcanpy using the help of Maria's Magdala Curtain to hide him from view. During his time in the ark, he disguised himself as one of the Earl's Skulls to get close to the Akuma Egg.
Just as Allen was about to fall through the Ark, he is caught by a Skull standing on a floating coffin. While insulting the exorcist, it was reviled that the Skull is actually Cross, who then throws his apprentice across the crumbling Ark. Out of his Skull disguise, the Exorcist General engages in a battle with the awakened Tyki Mikk, using Maria to hide Allen, Lavi, Lenalee and Chouji from view.
Tyki was quickly overpowered by Cross and as the final shot was to be fired to the Noah, the Earl made an appearance. After a brief exchange, verbally with Cross and then physically with Allen, the Earl made off with Tyki, leaving Cross to get his apprentice to save the Ark. He uses Tim to transport Allen, Lenalee and himself back to the room that holds the Akuma Egg before telling Allen he must be the one to stop the download of the Ark. Using his magic, Cross opens a portal to the final room while trying to slow the download of the egg. He guides Allen on how to stop the download as well as restore the Ark and even goes as far as the threaten him with more debt.
With the Ark and Akuma Egg safe, Cross has Allen make a door to the Musician's room where he started to be questioned on how knowledge of the Ark. Just before he could say anything, Lavi breaks the tension by calling Allen and telling him to "come and get it," trying to lure him out with the idea of food. Allen goes with Lavi, Chouji and Kanda to explore the Ark, leaving Lenalee to look after the unconscious Krory and Cross. Cross tells Lenalee that it was a shame her hair was short, telling her it was so beautiful before to which Lenalee mentions Anita said the same thing to her. This sends Cross into a momentary time of reflection on the woman, only to be broken when the others realize their mistake of leaving Cross alone with Lenalee. They all enter the room as Cross still has his hand on the exorcist's cheek while they sit on the floor, leading to an argument.
Once everything was secured, an Ark gate was opened to the Asian Branch HQ to allow everyone to get to a place of security. As he was leaving the gate, Cross stated he was leaving only to be stopped by Lenalee holding onto him. She begged the general not to leave and while everyone around was in shock, Cross was swayed by her, all Lenalee wanted was to not have to chase him down again.
Back in the European Branch HQ, while the exorcists are healing from their time in the Ark with the Noah, the Branch Heads and the four Exorcist Generals are sitting in a meeting with Secretary Lvellie. It was noted that Cross had received a mission for years before to find and destroy the Akuma Egg where after that, he cut off all contact with the Order. During the meeting, it also became known that Cross had taken Allen as his apprentice right after having received his mission and is one that has the will of the 14th Noah.
Lvellie says he will start an investigation on Allen and his connection to the 14th, Cross informing him he was free to investigate his apprentice and that what came after would be up to the secretary. As a way to keep the general from leaving, he is placed on house arrest, watched by attendants and will be given a management position. Cross is also now forbidden to have any contact with Allen, who will also be monitored day and night. Allen finds his master on his way to the library, where he gets into the room Cross is there drinking with fellow general Klaud Nine and ordering around his attendants. Before they could even talk, Allen is pulled from the room by men with Inspector Link as Cross was apologizing to him.
Cross is seen again during Lulu Bell's attack on the European Branch when Miranda uses her Time Record to stop the Akuma Egg from falling into the Black Ark. He is seen fighting with Klaud and Winters against the akuma in the Science Division where Winters tell him not to interfere. Cross then attacks Lulu Bell when she captures Miranda in her liquid form before informing the others that destroying the egg is the top priority before it can slip into the Ark. The three generals attack the egg as it sinks with Winters calling him a horrible master after as they had noticed Allen went to the egg to get Miranda at the same time.
When the level four akuma screamed, it caused those in the section to be incapacitated though, Cross was able to summon Maria, using her carte garde ability to move his body. Before he can start to attack, the akuma attacked Tiedoll and caused the floor of the department to be destroyed, the generals falling through the hole. At the last moment, as Allen and Lenalee are attacking the akuma together, Cross used carte garde to keep it from getting away from the attack. He tells Koumi to stop the evacuation, telling him they could use the akuma as a specimen. Aiding Allen and Lenalee, Cross shoots the akuma five times, informing it that one shot was for the members of the Order that had been killed and hurt and that the other four were for getting his clothing dirty. After the akuma is defeated, part of its head falls by Cross' feet and begins to taunt him which is stopped when he pretends to sneeze, shooting it in the process.
Cross speaks to Lvellie, informing him that he will tell him everything he knows about the 14th and the "players" in exchange for a chance to talk to Allen. He is later seen leaving with Lvellie for Central and is shown on his way by Koumi, Reever and Timcanpy. When Cross gives Tim to Koumi, he's asked why he isn't taking his golem to which the man simply replies that Tim didn't want to go with him, giving a wave as he left.
After the Order moves to Central while they work on a new building, Allen is finally allowed to see Cross, though their meeting is observed by Crow, Bookman and Lavi and is also recorded for Koumi and Lvellie to listen to later. Cross then starts to tell Allen about how Mana Walker was the 14th's older brother and that he had promised the 14th he would watch over Mana. He calls Allen the 14th, telling him he was able to play the song on the Ark because he carried the Noah's memories and that he was the piece responsible for his revival. When Allen questions when he was implanted with the memories Cross just brushes it off with a quick answer, continuing on a path of noncommittal answers. He tells Allen that the memories implanted in him would slowly erode him until he became the 14th. Knowing now who's memories were in him, Allen questions whether or not Mana had loved him or if he was only talking to the 14th to which Cross tries to calm him by stating Mana had mostly lost his mind after his brother died. He then holds Allen, questioning why the 14th had to chose Allen as his host over someone else before admitting he had grown fond of Allen. Before leaving, Cross asked Allen what he would do if he told him that he would have to kill someone he loved when he became the 14th and that there was another side to the war and then he is escorted from the room by members of Crow.

Cross found himself in the ruined city in the rain and within minutes, was in a battle with a strange version of Tyki, though it was still reminiscent of their battle in the Ark. To his surprise, he was stopped by Allen and not long after the fight was over, an odd fog overtook the city and Cross ran to the other city across the river to find better shelter.
During his months in the new world, he befriended locals across the river, making himself a part of the daily life and culture there, posing as a priest to gain their trust. With Maria's powers he was able to hide from officials, listening in on their meetings to gain information on the state of affairs, passing on important pieces to those he trusted.
After some time, Cross met and grew close to a woman, Lucia, whom he trusted with his secret about his status as one of the noted undesirables from across the river. She accepted that, taking him in to keep him safe while helping him with supplies for the others. During their time together, they planned help for the others and Lucia even managed to gather supporters for their cause, surprising Cross that not everyone wanted the "intruders" eliminated.
Just as he had been making plans with Lucia and a few other supporters, Cross lost Allen, waking up one morning to the sight of Tim perched on his nightstand, a sign the boy was gone. A few short weeks after Allen's departure, Cross himself was sent home with Timcanpy, leaving plans unfinished with Lucia for action against the higher ups in the city.
When Cross found himself back in the abandoned city, he was rejoined with the golden golem as well as his memories from his previous stay though he had come to terms with the fact Allen was no longer around. He would have to step up and help the others where Allen was absent.
Personality:
Cross Marian is a complicated man to put it lightly. While he's proven to be somewhat reliable, he is most famous for his disappearing acts and his illicit activities. It's shown that Cross can be very vain, stating to Allen and Lavi, after tossing the former away from him, that he only kept beautiful things around him. Later on he says to Klaud that she's still a beautiful woman that he enjoys being around. During the attack on HQ by the level four akuma, he shoots it five times with one bullet being for the Order members while the rest were for getting him dirty and ruining his clothing.
He is known to be a notorious womanizer, drinker and gambler. Cross has large debts all over the world from his gambling, and while he had Allen as his apprentice, he would force the boy to work in order to have him pay off his debt. While in Japan, he even left debts for the Noah to take care of. While he's under house arrest in the European HQ, he berates his attendants for the quality of wine they brought him, demanding that they get him a bottle of Romanee Conti, despite their claiming it was outside their budget and that he was already spending too much according to the secretary.
During his time with the order he has been known to disappear from their notice. While he was with Allen, he spent four years without checking in nor send in reports to inform them of his location or status. While he was in the Order, or even before, he came to know the 14th Noah and his brother, well enough to even have his will and make personal promises to him. The extent of his knowledge of the Noah Clan is unknown but he has proven many times that he is aware of some of their most inner workings and the purpose of the Ark and how it works.
Cross is a skilled marksman and sorcerer, often showing his skills in and out of fights. He uses forbidden magic to bind the body of a deceased exorcist to him to allow him to use her defensive abilities for himself. His sorcery even allows him to change his appearance, slow the process of downloading by the Noah and even teleport himself and others from one place to another. When he's using Judgment, he can launch a series of attacks so quickly the enemy is unable to see what he is doing, leading to him quickly over powering someone.
The one side that stays hidden from most is the part of him that actually cares about others. While he might throw people into the line of fire for things, he can become remorseful and show fondness to those that are close to him. After Allen had stopped the destruction of the Ark, Lenalee tells him about Anita and he smiles, calling her a foolish woman then commenting all the good ones are feisty. When he gets to talk to Allen at Central, he notes he can no longer make fun of Tiedoll's affection for his team as he had grown fond of Allen and that he had wished Allen's fate were different. Later on when he's alone he remarks the Order had actually proven to do some good for his apprentice.
Abilities/Additional Notes:
Sorcery: Cross is a skilled sorcery, specializing in ancient magic. He was able to bind the corpse of a deceased exorcist to him (Maria) to use her abilities to aid him in battle. He was also able to defeat a large number of Skulls in the Ark as well as slowing the download of the Akuma Egg.
Teleportation: A small ability he has. It allows him to move from point A to point B alone or with companions though it might only be beneficial for short distances.
Exorcist: As an exorcist, Cross is very skilled. He's a General rank in the Order and is able to use his weapon with ease. During his time in the Ark, he was able to single handedly fight off the newly awoken Tyki Mikk where Allen and Lavi were barely able to stave off his attacks.

A kicked in door to a long abandoned private residence. There must have been some wine around here. Somewhere. He was in no mood to deal with the idea of being in some strange place, he had not gone to himself, while sober. Not to mention there seemed to be not a single sight of a lovely woman around let alone any person at all.
Ugh... This place was filthy too. Cross almost wished he had something to keep his coat clean and hair out of the way.

Knowing now who's memories were in him, Allen questions whether or not Mana had loved him or if he was only talking to the 14th to which Cross tries to calm him by stating Mana had mostly lost his mind after his brother died. He then holds Allen, questioning why the 14th had to chose Allen as his host over someone else before admitting he had grown fond of Allen. Before leaving, Cross asked Allen what he would do if he told him that he would have to kill someone he loved when he became the 14th and that there was another side to the war and then he is escorted from the room by members of Crow.

Cross found himself in the ruined city in the rain and within minutes, was in a battle with a strange version of Tyki, though it was still reminiscent of their battle in the Ark. To his surprise, he was stopped by Allen and not long after the fight was over, an odd fog overtook the city and Cross ran to the other city across the river to find better shelter.
During his months in the new world, he befriended locals across the river, making himself a part of the daily life and culture there, posing as a priest to gain their trust. With Maria's powers he was able to hide from officials, listening in on their meetings to gain information on the state of affairs, passing on important pieces to those he trusted.
After some time, Cross met and grew close to a woman, Lucia, whom he trusted with his secret about his status as one of the noted undesirables from across the river. She accepted that, taking him in to keep him safe while helping him with supplies for the others. During their time together, they planned help for the others and Lucia even managed to gather supporters for their cause, surprising Cross that not everyone wanted the "intruders" eliminated.
Just as he had been making plans with Lucia and a few other supporters, Cross lost Allen, waking up one morning to the sight of Tim perched on his nightstand, a sign the boy was gone. A few short weeks after Allen's departure, Cross himself was sent home with Timcanpy, leaving plans unfinished with Lucia for action against the higher ups in the city.
When Cross found himself back in the abandoned city, he was rejoined with the golden golem as well as his memories from his previous stay though he had come to terms with the fact Allen was no longer around. He would have to step up and help the others where Allen was absent.
Personality:
Cross Marian is a complicated man to put it lightly. While he's proven to be somewhat reliable, he is most famous for his disappearing acts and his illicit activities. It's shown that Cross can be very vain, stating to Allen and Lavi, after tossing the former away from him, that he only kept beautiful things around him. Later on he says to Klaud that she's still a beautiful woman that he enjoys being around. During the attack on HQ by the level four akuma, he shoots it five times with one bullet being for the Order members while the rest were for getting him dirty and ruining his clothing.
He is known to be a notorious womanizer, drinker and gambler. Cross has large debts all over the world from his gambling, and while he had Allen as his apprentice, he would force the boy to work in order to have him pay off his debt. While in Japan, he even left debts for the Noah to take care of. While he's under house arrest in the European HQ, he berates his attendants for the quality of wine they brought him, demanding that they get him a bottle of Romanee Conti, despite their claiming it was outside their budget and that he was already spending too much according to the secretary.
During his time with the order he has been known to disappear from their notice. While he was with Allen, he spent four years without checking in nor send in reports to inform them of his location or status. While he was in the Order, or even before, he came to know the 14th Noah and his brother, well enough to even have his will and make personal promises to him. The extent of his knowledge of the Noah Clan is unknown but he has proven many times that he is aware of some of their most inner workings and the purpose of the Ark and how it works.
Cross is a skilled marksman and sorcerer, often showing his skills in and out of fights. He uses forbidden magic to bind the body of a deceased exorcist to him to allow him to use her defensive abilities for himself. His sorcery even allows him to change his appearance, slow the process of downloading by the Noah and even teleport himself and others from one place to another. When he's using Judgment, he can launch a series of attacks so quickly the enemy is unable to see what he is doing, leading to him quickly over powering someone.
The one side that stays hidden from most is the part of him that actually cares about others. While he might throw people into the line of fire for things, he can become remorseful and show fondness to those that are close to him. After Allen had stopped the destruction of the Ark, Lenalee tells him about Anita and he smiles, calling her a foolish woman then commenting all the good ones are feisty. When he gets to talk to Allen at Central, he notes he can no longer make fun of Tiedoll's affection for his team as he had grown fond of Allen and that he had wished Allen's fate were different. Later on when he's alone he remarks the Order had actually proven to do some good for his apprentice.
Abilities/Additional Notes:
Sorcery: Cross is a skilled sorcery, specializing in ancient magic. He was able to bind the corpse of a deceased exorcist to him (Maria) to use her abilities to aid him in battle. He was also able to defeat a large number of Skulls in the Ark as well as slowing the download of the Akuma Egg.
Teleportation: A small ability he has. It allows him to move from point A to point B alone or with companions though it might only be beneficial for short distances.
Exorcist: As an exorcist, Cross is very skilled. He's a General rank in the Order and is able to use his weapon with ease. During his time in the Ark, he was able to single handedly fight off the newly awoken Tyki Mikk where Allen and Lavi were barely able to stave off his attacks.

A kicked in door to a long abandoned private residence. There must have been some wine around here. Somewhere. He was in no mood to deal with the idea of being in some strange place, he had not gone to himself, while sober. Not to mention there seemed to be not a single sight of a lovely woman around let alone any person at all.
Ugh... This place was filthy too. Cross almost wished he had something to keep his coat clean and hair out of the way.

…You've got to be kidding me? Back again? Third time's the charm I suppose.
[The feed shows the man standing by the river, back again after being sent home a second time after the fourth wall trouble. He seems calmer this time though and Tim perches atop his maker's shoulder. The poor golem had to come back with him but at least they could look for Allen together and maybe see Lucia again!]
