Graduation and such

Well, graduation was interesting, to say the least.

We paraded/marched/"walked briskly,", as they kept calling it at graduation practice on Thursday, in while I fruitlessly looked for my parents in the crowd. It was fun though to sit in the first row. The people around me were amazing to talk to. Dan McIntosh (who is a fellow bookseller!), Faisal, Kyla Ashenbeck, and Deena Gauntt were so fun to be around and we had some pretty good conversations after walking across stage.

Anyway, so it starts, and we pledge ourselves for what is most likely the last time we do it in a "regular" fashion. Diane got up to do the Invocation, which was lovely and so Diane-esque...and then it was Jessica's turn.

As I'm sure that every blogger, MySpacer, LJer, and other online journals and communities have rambled on about in their online spaces, I will still recount this wonderful, heartfelt tale of Jessica's pride, bravery, and defiance of school administration. She got up to do her Welcoming speech, which, within the first 30 seconds I started to catch on that she was definitely not saying what she was supposed to be saying. A few things, like Ms. Acosta rapidly flipping through her copies of the speeches (which my brother noticed) and Jessica's directive to the students to "stand up to the administration and exercise our First Amendment rights to be unique" were nice tip-offs to what was to come. The "toe truck" joke was horrible, yet so Jessicaish, and I think that's about when Mr. Huff angrily approached Jessica and more-than-firmly said "Thank you, Jessica" and she went straight into Faisal. Woooooow.

After thinking about it today, I really am proud of Jessica for several reasons. But do understand that I think it wasn't worth it to screw up her speech just for the sake of a few horrible jokes. I wouldn't have done it. But Jessica...well, knowing her since like 1st grade, it didn't surprise me that she did something like that. The girl who would come to school each day decked in an A&M t-shirt, uncontrollable bushy hair, huge glasses (as was the style) and singing the theme song to Pinky and the Brain certainly lived up to what will always remain in my mind of her. I'm so proud of her for sticking up in what she believes in, that she felt that she had a right and a freedom to defy administration. Plus, the defying administration, to me, was great since KHS Admin is horrible, hypocritical, and just down-right rude. That, and she had the bravery to do what she did makes me smile on the outside and always on the inside. You gotta love that girl.

Anyway, the rest of the ceremony was long but fine.

We went out to lunch at Birraporetti's afterwards, and when we came to the first of the two locations, realized that the particular location we were at (River Oaks) was no longer there, so we had to drive to downtown to get to BP's #2. When we were driving down there, I realized how nice downtown Houston is. So big, spacious, and (surprisingly) clean. Lunch was good, but not filling for the rest of the day, and now I'm starving as I type this.

Graduation gifts: a palm pilot, which I love (and need to name! along with my iPod) and TiVo, for next year, which is an amazing gift :D

Hope that all of y'all chicas had fun tonight clubbing~

If I haven't said it enough or just lately, I love you all, and will miss you sorely next year like no other. My love for your friendships have helped sustain me these past years in high school, and I hope that that love will continue to grow and learn and discover each other over the years to come, even if we aren't at the same school (or same state *cough*Lauren!*cough*).

Goodnighte, my lov-eh-ley ladies. And yes, that's "Goodnight" + e. It just looks kewl.
