Sometimes, I really hate my shows...
So yesterday I watched the big, super hyped, 'fan-pleasing', mind blowing, never see it coming finale of Bones. No, I don't live in Canada but I was feeling patient with the torrents because I thought that even if tptb had, in reality, pulled the wool over our eyes so far as Bones/Booth hooking up was concerned, it would at least be a fun and interesting ride.
All I can say now is....wow.
And that is not a good wow. That is a 'I can't believe you guys just did that and, worse yet, did it in the season finale' wow.
Before I say anything else, I will say this: They did not lie to us. The long awaited sex scene was not a hallucination on Booth's part, nor was it a dream or any variation thereof. It was actually worse than that.
It was a godd*mn story.
Not even a good story for an author of Brennan's supposed caliber. I've read better fanfiction from 13 year olds. (And no, that's not a dig at fic. I've long thought that there are some fanfiction writers who have a better grasp of the show than the staffers--CSI: Miami, I'm looking in your dircetion.)
But I digress. In theory, the episode could have worked. As a standard, run of the mill, typical Thursday night episode. That mess was not, I repeat, WAS NOT a friggin' season finale episode. There was some humor, the entire squint squad+ showing up for the ride, and as any fan of the show would probably expect, that would result in some chuckle and even laugh out loud worthy scenes. However, there was none of the suspense typically associated with this particular crime drama, no tension, no real wondering of what happens now, because none of it was real. And personally, I think it was worse that we knew that little tidbit from scene one.
I'm not even going to bother talking about the case and plot of the fairytale portion of this episode. Neither of those things really merit much discussion. I instead will focus on the only real substance to this episode, which, ironically lasts all of a minute. Maybe. At the very end. Booth wakes up. "Wow, what a nutty dream i just had. Seemed so real." Brennan, obviously, is excited. "You're okay. The surgery went okay. You reacted badly to the anesthesia though and were in a coma for four days, but you're just dandy."
And here, my friends, is where they get to the good stuff.
Booth looks at her, face rather blank which fits given what he says next: "Who are you?" Brennan's face falls. Fade to black.
.....
WHAT?! You've got to be f*ckin' kidding me. This, after all the build up over the past few eps, hell over the past few years, is all they have to offer? This is their grand finale for the '08-'09 season? Booth has amnesia? Really? That is the best they could come up with as a send off?
"Who are you?"
I'm just...done...
