doctor who 6.02: day of the moon.
I HAVE SO MANY FEELINGS.
i'm currently rewatching the episode, which i did think was absolutely brilliant. but so frustrating, because it raises more questions than it answers. many people are speculating that the little girl is river, or amy's daughter, or the doctor and amy's daughter, and i find problems with all of those theories. let me deal with the last bit first--amy is in love with rory, there is no doubt in my mind. there is no way that she and the doctor slept together and produced a time lord baby, i just refuse to think that of amy or of the doctor. i'm not convinced that the girl is amy's daughter either--the silence are masters of mind manipulation, and just because someone's in a picture with a baby doesn't mean that it's theirs. either way, why has amy's child been left alone in the 1960s? rory, amy and the doctor would move heaven and earth to find that child if it were kidnapped, so these theories seem implausible to me. i find the river theory problematic because i don't buy that river's part time lord either, and i don't think that river grew up in an orphanage and spent six months wandering the streets. it doesn't seem like it would be the back story of a moffat creation he actively loves and enjoys. of course, moffat loves a good plot twist so who knows?
i DO think that the child has been manipulated in some way to be part time lord. in "the lodger" from the last series, the correct pilot that had been found was the doctor. something specifically about the doctor, and likely, time lord genetics, is what the silence was presumably seeking. so it's feasible that they raised, protected and possibly genetically manipulated this girl to be their ship's pilot.
don't for one second think that this is the last we've seen of the silence. we still don't know so much about their motivation. why did they cause the TARDIS to explode, creating the cracks in time? what does the phrase "silence will fall" actually mean? what were they doing with the spaceship, and what were they going to use it to do? why did they kidnap amy in particular? they said that she was going to play a part in their plan, but what was it going to be before the doctor came in and saved the day? why did they require that little girl? slightly unrelated, but WHO THE HELL IS RIVER SONG? i need to know, am tired of waiting.
assorted other thoughts: i love river song more and more all the time. her face at the end of the episode was breaking my heart. rory was breaking my heart the entire episode, oh he loves amy so much. i love matt smith more than words can say, and it always makes me sad when people hate on him for no apparent reason besides the fact that their tennant-love has eclipsed all other doctor actors in their hearts. so excited for the upcoming episodes, even if i know that this mid-season cliffhanger is going to kill me with waiting.
