KLABUNDE, Susan Elizabeth - 43, Halifax, passed away September 28, 2007, in the IWK-Grace Health Centre. Born in London, Ont., on May 4, 1964, she was a daughter of Dianne (Read) Klabunde and the late Karl Klabunde.
A bright, bright light in our world, Sue was a graduate of the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, where she created outstanding works in ceramics and sculpture. She also studied at the Parsons School of Design.
Sue's various careers included work in set design at the Blyth and Port Stanley Summer Festivals, co-owner of "Spots Pots-fabulous and funky", special projects at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, work on various films in Art and Production departments, and Vice President of Silver Leaf Productions. She was a campaigner for the NDP. She was involved with the local "Vagina Monologues" productions and "Tits' n Glitz".
She was a huge fan of hanging with the gang at the Plantation Camping Resort. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, entertaining and being entertained. Sue loved life. She loved her family and friends. She was a great partner to her husband, Ed, and a great mother to her children. She was a selfless source of inspiration and information to her peers. She was a "bon vivant" and flashy dresser. She touched a thousand people. She will be missed by all who knew her. This is an understatement.
She is survived by her husband, Edward Lesley Higdon; daughter, Madeline; sons, Matthew, and newborn, Frederick (September 27, 2007); sister, Heidi, and half-sister, Nancy. She was predeceased by her father, Karl, on October 22, 1985, and sister, Michelle.
Visitation will be held in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., on Monday, October 1, from 6-9 p.m.
A pot luck celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the new NSCAD campus, 1107 Marginal Rd., next to Pier 21, third floor.
Donations may be made to Sue's family. A special thanks to friends at the QEII. E-mail condolences may be sent to: condolences.snow@ns.aliantzinc.ca
