Two years ago, a girl was watching NHK USA, waiting anxiously for her favourite girlband to make their appearance. She had set up her VCR and recorded the show with a fresh new VHS. Without knowing exactly when they would come onto the show, she stayed up past her bedtime to watch Music Japan. Most of the performers she found uninteresting or mediocre.
And that was when she met w-inds.
The performance leading up to Buono! was by no other than the globally acknowledged, award winning vocal dance unit, w-inds. Her immediate thought as she stared at the lead singer's abnormally blonde-orange hair was, "I'll bet he's full of himself. Look at how arrogantly he grins like that. I wonder how many girls are swooning for them." She then turned her attention to the two boys at either of his side. One appeared a traditional Japanese boy, while the other's face was hidden by his blue cap. She wondered cynically what he had to hide. Their song continued, and they went on dancing and singing in their blue jackets, which looked to be made of waxed leather. She was intrigued. The song they sang was catchy, and she couldn't help but be amused by their English as they sang, "So let me hold you, kondo wa turn me on!" And to her displeasure, she found herself steadily liking the song even more. It spread like a virus, the contagious beats vibrating through her veins and shocking her nerves. And when their performance ended, she was left only with the comfort of seeing the long awaited performers that had used to be her favourite band.
That was the performance that changed my life. And now I'm here translating all the w-inds. stuff I can get my hands on. I've seen what it's like for people to be blocked by a totally unneccesary language barrier. It's slightly unfair, and we could all do without it. That's why, on May 31, 2011, I started w-inds. to words. Granted, the name is highly unoriginal and clearly lacking in the catchiness category; my word of advice to anyone would be to think their company name through. Thoroughly. Nevertheless, what happens is meant to happen, so w-inds. to words it shall be.
