Charminar!
Today we went to Charminar! It was fantastic...I have posted pics HERE ...
Charminar means 4 minurets which as you can see by the pictures is what it is... a building with four towers around it. It was built to commemerate the marriage of a royal couple. He was Hindu and she was Muslim. So the building has symbols and architecture of both religons. The woman converted to Hinduism after marriage but the building was meant to symbolize the two religons coming together.
It is in the old city which was very cool! So crowded but the bizarre around Charminar was fascinating. It is not a place that westerners should go alone apparently but RK and his family were very kind and took us there. We went Bangle shopping after a guided tour.
We then went to lunch in a place called Hi-Tec city. Wow! There are streets and streets of HUGE buildings housing hundreds of companies. We saw Monster.com, Microsoft and many more. Quite impressive.
Then back to the guest house. I took a two hour nap and I am ready now to sleep again. This cold is killing me.
Tomorrow is a day spent at the guest house. We need to give poor RK a break from hosting duty and I desperately need to get work done before I go to the office for the first time on Tuesday. I am a bit nervous about that even though I know it will all be fine. It will also be nice just to have a down day where we do not go anywhere but sleep late and lay low.
Everyone here has been so nice and the city is so interesting. There is so much to do and to see.
