Hello! No I haven't fallen off the face of the planet (and yes, I do realize maybe some of you are thinking that maybe I should), but life has been absolutely insane since I got back to work January 5th.
Anywhoo...I'll detail the work stuff elsewhere, but home-life has been just as busy. Home projects abound, the most involved being redoing the master bedroom. Our mattress is shot, so I decided that I'd really like to have "real" furniture as opposed to the 10+ year old particle board put-together-yourself stuff that is falling apart that we currently have. I have a budget of $5000 USD for the furniture and mattress set and it looks like we'll probably fit within that. I'll need to do a before and after shot so you can see the differences. In addition to the new furniture, the bedroom is also going to be repainted and the carpeting removed. I believe the carpeting, which is over 30 years old and decaying, is contributing greatly to my dust allergies. Thankfully there is a nice hardwood floor under that carpeting.
I've decided on a light green with white accents for the wall color and some small area rugs to warm the floor. The bedroom set will most likely be either a light oak or ash color (depends on which set we get. I want to see them in person first.) So the overall effect should be rather airy. And before you ask,
darph_bobo's comment is "yes, dear." ;P
Of course, in order for all this to happen, we need to have a separate place to sleep and a place to put our current furniture (which is still full) so that we can repaint and remove the carpeting. So this is where cleaning out our storage room, aka "the cat's room", comes in. It originally was an old bedroom, and when we moved in we just tossed stuff in there, so the place was an absolute mess. The first thing I did was haul everything out of the room to catalog what exactly was in there. Then once I could find the floor in there, it was time to vacuum and rearrange everything. I removed the bed that was in there, put in a shelving unit and filled it with my Fenton Art Glass, some craft stuff, and other decorations. I boxed up all my Christmas decorations for storage in the attic, along with some of my old toys and memorabilia from high school/college. I found where the mice had been storing cat food too...about 15lbs of cat food was packed into the box of a large framed print. With the bed gone, there is much more floor space to allow me to rearrange some things, such as moving the secretary from the guest bedroom into the cat's room and moving my treadmill upstairs (where I'm more likely to use it.) I need about another 1-2 days of cleaning in there before I pronounce it time to go paint shopping.
I'm targeting being ready to go furniture shopping by mid-March. Our current mattress is really causing us sleep problems, even with a 2" memory foam topper. I'm tired of being tired.
And snagged from Thesilla...How evil am I?
