“I’m proud of you,” Rhyme said half-heartedly. She tried to force a smile, but she couldn’t help her bottom lip quivering.
Beat stared at her. “Whassa’ matter? It’s just a part time job.”
“Nothing!” She shook her head.
“I ain’t leavin’ you, sis. It’s just that… I’m tryna make things better for us, ya know?” He smiled and wrapped his arms around her. “You oughta have the best.”
Rhyme sniffled. “Who will make me a snack after school?”
“Bwah! Is that all you’re ‘fraid of?” Beat couldn’t help but laugh at this. “I’ll bring ya somethin’ every day. I promise.”
