baked brie or camembert with cranberries and mini toasts
pickle plate with pickled vegetables and cornichons and olives and stuff like that (pickles are a really good appetizer because they help you digest food better)
I love a good raw veggie plate with various dips and hummus or something like that.
Pumpkin Hummus 1 tbsp tahini 2 tsp vegetable oil 3-4 tbsp water 1 tsp ground cumin 3/4 tsp salt, or to taste 1/4 tsp ground cayenne pepper, or to taste 1 (15-oz) can garbanzo beans 1 (15-oz) can pumpkin puree (scant 2 cups) 1 garlic clove, smashed
In a food processor, combine all ingredients and puree until very smooth. Add a bit of extra water if the mixture is too thick to blend. Makes about 2 cups.
my variation will mostly consist of using olive oil instead of vegetable oil and water, adding more tahini, more garlic, and some cinnamon/nutmeg/coriander. it's kinda hard to fuck up hummus, cuz you make it to your taste preference, there are no set rules.
I made miniature Brie tarts for the lasagn-off and everyone seemed to like them. They're really easy. Just buy some frozen, pre-made tart shells. Cut up some Brie and put a piece into each shell. Top with a walnut half and bake until cheese is melted and bubbly. I brought them already assmebled to the party and baked them there for about 5 minutes.
