WHY- I am not a social creature, and by forcing myself to talk to strangers, I will be slowly getting more comfortable in the social environment. This is especially important for me when I move to Vancouver, because one of the aspects I want to be able to start over fresh with myself is my social recluse nature.
HOW- I will first define the resolution: Talking does not necessarily mean having a full conversation. I cannot guarantee that the stranger will want to talk to me. Instead, what I mean by talking is openly attempting to engage a stranger in conversation, even if that only means saying hello to someone on the street. I've never even done that in my life, and I'm fascinated anytime someone does it to me. I'm very ashamed that I haven't done that in my lifetime, at least no times that I can remember clearly at the moment. I will speak to at least one stranger a day, and only count it if they acknowledge that I'm talking to them. Acknowledgement methods include, but are not limited to: conversation, a few words, a gesture (rude or otherwise), or a smile. Sharp aversion of the eyes does not count.
WHAT WILL COME OF THIS? - I will develop a stronger social comfort. I will slowly but surely develop a stronger understanding for human nature in all the various "acknowledgments' I get. I will potentially meet many new friends. I will have a stronger sense of community by actively participating in it.
