Theoretically speaking, the dead here might just be spirits temporarily trapped between life and salvation - or damnation. Or between life and reincarnation, depending on which world and religion you look at. Considering the number of worlds here, there are endless possibilities-

So don't be a jerk and focus on the worst possible outcome, kid. Don't worry them unnecessarily when no good will come of it.
