Thoughts about Share Love, and Kisumai HOME Solo PVs
May 08, 2021 15:55
Avex and Kisumai released a series of solo PVs approaching their online concert, HOME, next week. This is the playlist on YT.
Let’s talk about Share Love. I’ve spent the whole night thinking about this PV. First, I want to put my emotional journey while discovering this song & PV into a proper timeline. When Avex first posted the 10secs teaser of each song that night, honestly, I refused to listen to it. I know 10secs won’t do any justice to the song so I better not listen. But my TL has been very noisy about it being the continuation of Love Story etc, and I was like, oh okay, so we’re expecting that genre. Okay.
The next morning, yesterday morning, when the morning news was out, that was the first time I listened to the song. Of course, it’s only a cut of the song, as well as the others’, but I instantly fell in love with Share Love. I needed time to grasp the other members’ songs but I fell immediately in love with Share Love. Then as more and more morning news reported the PV, I begin to feel awkward, like huh? Like, I can already tell the other members’ PVs involved proper planning and extra effort in filming, they introduced collaborations with some big names from various industries, they used cutting-edge technology in 3D and post-editing and other out-of-the-box methods of filming. And this guy only did a bird-eye view, fixed point and single shot filming. I don’t want to judge. I believe in Tama. He must have something up his sleeves. I believe in his taste and his sense and he never disappointed me so far. After all, he’s the guy who came up with that artistic and mind-blowing concept of ALIVE 5 years ago. Let’s just believe in him.
[Impression of Kitayama Hiromitsu「Hai ni naru mae ni」]Impression of Kitayama Hiromitsu "Hai ni naru mae ni" Then the 30mins interval PV premieres started. We first got Mitsu’s. WHOAH. So jaw-dropping. It was so visually shocking, the impact of the dynamic change of scenes and the whole explosions of emotions from this PV heavily struck my visual sense and my mind. The part that I loved the most was the one scene where it shows a close-up of Mitsu’s right eye as he’s watching this static motion of a black and white TV, the fuzzy screen flashes reflection on his pupil but his eye stood still. Not even a blink. It gives me kind of an eerie feeling. I don’t know why, but that was my favorite part.
[Impression of Yokoo Wataru「Boku wo terasu mono」]Impression of Yokoo Wataru "Boku wo terasu mono" Next is Watta’s. It was so aesthetically pleasing as if he comes out of the painting itself, it’s more like a work of art than a PV. And the fact that he did a collaboration with the artist who worked for the illustrations of Ghibli’s Whisper of The Heart is so impressive. Watta is known for being a huge fan of Ghibli, and to actually incorporate it into his own work, I really take my hat off to him.
[Impression of Senga Kento「Buzz」]Impression of Senga Kento "Buzz" After Watta’s, we got Sen-chan. I say it’s more like a comedy than a PV, it has such an interesting concept, and him collaborating with the popular YouTuber feels so Reiwa. I think that’s kind of Sen-chan’s unique taste in his work? Even the lyrics also depicts the life in this digital era, just like his previous song Mou Tsukiattenainda. This PV’s worldview is so Sen-chan, the creative guy who a mediocre like me will never be able to understand. The fact that he produced everything himself, from writing the song to choreographing the dance to starring in the PV itself, I can’t imagine the amount of work he was in.
3 members done and there were 4 members left. I kind of made a guess (well all of us did lol) about the pattern of the order, and one of my -false- guess is that they will premiere in the order of Maeashi-2 Busaiku-Maeashi-2 Busaiku-Maeashi. Which of course was wrong, LOL, but at this point, I kind of had a gut feeling that Tama’s would be the last one. I didn’t want to sound so assumptive and act like such a know-it-all, but deep in my heart I somehow guessed so. But there’s a part of me who denied it too, like, are you kidding me, his is such a plain and simple one! It will be such an anti-climax to be placed at the end! Let’s see then.
[Impression of Miyata Toshiya feat. Ichinose Tokiya「Nemophila」]Impression of Miyata Toshiya feat. Ichinose Tokiya "Nemophila" After that it was Miyata’s. I don’t even need to explain anything about this PV. It was that news-worthy that I think most of the headlines about Kisumai’s solo PVs is about this. The title said everything. Miyata Toshiya (Kis-My-Ft2) feat. Ichinose Tokiya (STARISH). Doesn’t it give you the goosebumps? Miyata is not a joke. I salute this guy so much, he managed to make this deal with his fave anime character, moreover look at the quality!!! Although at first glance it may seem like a typical singing and dancing idol PV, this one is a breakthrough, made to blow your mind away! The perfect blend between a human and an animation, the equally strong vocals between them both, the synchronized dance and everything about this PV is flawless. And I’m 1000% sure Miyata’s himes must have been breathless when they see this PV hahaha.
[Impression of Fujigaya Taisuke「Yobu koe」]Impression of Fujigaya Taisuke "Yobu koe" After that comes Gaya’s. Okay. First of all, Fujigaya Taisuke is a perfect godly being (no he’s not a human). Basically, him standing in the picture alone already makes everyone else look like worthless earthlings compared to him. While the other members’ PVs left me in awe, unable to close my mouth because they were so impressive, only Gaya’s PV touched me so much it almost made me tear up. It was such a warm-hearted, emotionally-moving PV. I felt a ticklish sting in my heart as I saw the smiling faces of these people, and it definitely shot me dead when Gaya showed up with that thin moustache. Plus the way he sung the song so emotionally, his voice cracking at the end when he reached the high note. The overall feeling I felt when I watched this PV was soft, fluffy and pleasant. Only someone with a pure heart can make something so heartwarming like this.
(By this time, I’m kind of like 99% sure Tama’s will come last). But I also grew insecure. You know how you are lenient and highly-tolerable towards other people but when it comes to your own bias, you’ll suddenly be all strict and judgmental? Yeah that’s how I feel about Tama. I mean, there’s a saying of “save the best for last”. I’m sure Avex won’t put Tama’s at the end without a reason, they are not some stupid thoughtless people. But still, I can’t help feeling insecure. All the other members PVs so far have been very impactful in so many different ways, I’m sure Nika’s would be impactful too, because I already felt that way since the morning news. I’m so worried Tama’s PV won’t serve its purpose as the closing and the “save the best for last”. I’m worried people will make light of him because his PV is boring compared to other members and stuff, you know me and my excessively negative thoughts. But I still believe in him.
[Impression of Nikaido Takashi「BRAVE TUNING」]Impression of Nikaido Takashi "BRAVE TUNING" Then comes Nika’s. First thought, huh so short??? I felt like I had only tweeted 3 tweets and then it’s over. Lol. Honestly, when I watched the morning news, I liked Nika’s the most. Both the song and the PV. And it did not disappoint me at all. The song is very addictive, the quick speech and complicated words compliment Nika’s husky voice so much, the melody is hyper and makes your blood boil from excitement, I feel like jumping around and acting crazy along with the song. Then the visual. The cartoon version of him is so on point! It’s so Nika! The overall PV is so busy with scene transitions and animations and flashing texts. In a positive way, it’s a dizzy and chaotic PV that is befitting the quick tempo song.
Okay now only Tama’s is left. Be prepared. I was restless the whole 25 minutes waiting for the premiere.
[Impression of Tamamori Yuta「Share Love」]Impression of Tamamori Yuta "Share Love" Then it comes. Share Love PV. I know what to expect. It will only be a single shot from a fixed-point camera, there won’t be any shocking visuals out of nowhere or any surprise elements at all, but I didn’t expect it to make me feel this way at all!! As if being struck by lightning, I was at a loss for words, my brain was jumbled up because so many thoughts and feelings rushed in at the same time. It takes me a whole night to untangle each and every thread of emotions and put them into sensible words. And once again, Tamamori Yuta amazed me in his own unique ways. I don’t know how to summarize this PV, no word within my knowledge can express it properly.
This PV was shot from a fixed point. There’s no play on camera angles or close-ups or dramatic transitions of scenes or any complicated photography. Maybe it didn’t need heavy post-editing too.
The setting mainly focuses on a cramped bed in a typical Japanese tiny bedroom. Nothing lavish about it, it’s nothing at all like Junnosuke’s gorgeous room in a high-rise apartment overlooking Tokyo Tower. Some messy cables are on the floor, there’s no unique furniture or any state-of-the-art decorative ornament, even the bed consists only of one mattress covered with plain sheet. The blanket is almost equally plain.
The girl in the bed barely moved an inch. She didn’t do anything to help bring emotions like the people in Gaya’s PV. There’s no close-up of Tama’s face at all so his out-of-this-world facial beauty is definitely not what he’s selling here.
The only movement in this 3 minutes PV is Tama himself and the passing cars outside.
It’s so unadorned. No cosmetics.
Simple. Humble. Truthful.
For me, it takes courage and strong determination to make a PV this simple, among the other ground-breaking PVs from other members. People can call him lazy and make no effort, but I think it’s a proof of how strong his heart is.
And yet. This PV is full of love.
It’s like an embodiment of Tamamori Yuta himself.
I interpret it as his expressions of love. The lyrics is so sweet, there are some lines that left deep impressions on me like the part where he said their days together will never run out of colors, or the part that said that quarrels and misunderstandings and tears are just proofs that both of them are not perfect. And yet these ordinary days with her are fragments of small happiness. The song ended with the line “I hope one day we will match each other so well that we can laugh the same laugh at the same timing”. Nothing fancy or boastful, exactly like the PV. Listening to these lyrics while paying careful attention to each of his expressions and small gestures makes me feel an overwhelming love. Again, there’s no close-ups of his face so I can’t see his facial expressions clearly, but even so, the vibes, the overall aura of this guy just screams his love towards the girl. And now I know, this is why I was left speechless yesterday. Because I was just hit by an enormous amount of love from the other side of the monitor.
Now let’s talk about Share Love as the closing of Kisumai HOME Solo PV premieres. I also wonder why Avex made Tama’s the last one. If they’re aiming for a grand and impressive closing, the “This is what you’ve been waiting for!!!” kind of thing, I’d vote either Mitsu’s or Miyata’s to be placed at the end. Disclaimer, this is PURELY my own opinion, I don’t know the real reason, they never said it, I’m just making guesses based on what I feel. My overall feeling after watching Share Love at the end of all 7, I feel soothed. I feel like, no matter how they’ve advanced and improved so much, in the end, Kisumai are still boys next door at heart. After intense attack in the beginning, a warm break-time and another climax on second half, everything is closed by a soothing, relaxing, full of love PV that is Share Love. Very similar to the feeling when attending a Kisumai concert, huh??? Feels so homey. Besides, it’s a perfect PV to watch at night before going to bed LOL.
Wow that was quite long. Hahaha.
[Epilogue - thoughts about Kis-My-Ft2]Epilogue - thoughts about Kis-My-Ft2 After all 7 PVs were published and things have calmed down for a bit, I read the boys’ blog posts. Most of them talked about their PVs, except Watta and Tama. But among them, I find Sen-chan’s post hit me the hardest. He said the PVs might not be like the fans’ likings, it’s their first time premiering something on YouTube and it’s full of uncertainties, but they took the risk and challenged themselves, because they want more people to know about Kisumai. I think that’s why each of them took different genres that cater to different people, so that they can tap into different market segments who never know about them before.
After all, Kisumai is a team of 7 unique individuals with different characteristics and tastes, united together to reach the same goal. Their diversity is very obvious in these 7 PVs.
The thought-provoking one. The dreamy and fairy-tale like one. The idol one. The bizarre one. The heartwarming and caring one. The vigorous one. The simple yet loving one.
