i just don't understand
I expected tarnished stares
behond backs of papers
twisted with nerves
unattached to reality

but this
no glares
no smiles
no "who are you"s
or "I'm so proud of you"

how long I worked on this mask
coated in copper
polished, washed and displayed
hard to react to they say
in science books meant to be read,
but are better heard

I removed this mask
don't you see?
don't you get it?
it's gone
it's me

self conciousness slips away
into a fear
have I been invisable all along?
or am I not read, but heard?
