inspired by the girls in the chinese forum to post something about mamo here. not sure how many people will read this long-winded tribute, but i am taking this opportunity to reflect on my journey with my favourite seiyuu, miyano mamoru san aka mamo, the very guy that got me interested in the seiyuu world.
mamo's birthday also marks my 1st year anniversery of being a mamo fan. strictly speaking, mamo is not the first seiyuu that i have ever like. there are 2-3 before him, but never for long, the longest lasted only for a month. which is to say, mamo is the first seiyuu who brought me into the seiyuu world. like most mamo fans, his voice first captured my heart through his character as yagami light (a character that i hated even till now!) in death note. i am not good at describing voices, but after death note, mamo is my all time favourite CV for villians. initially, similarly with all love-struck fangirls young into the fandom, my everyday life is filled with nothing but constant thoughts of mamo. i desperately searched for his animes (yeah, i proudly say i watched most of them, even his only ecchi anime), drama cds, songs, videos, pictures, joined his community, forums...i even started reading his blog, something that i have never done for any artistes before. news of mamo made me squeak with joy, photos of him turned my heart weak. oh, how i loved this man like a girlfriend loved her boyfriend. i wished he is not married, and convinced myself this is the truth too, because his busy schedules would definitely keep him from dating.
but everything came crashing when mamo announced his marriage. it shocked me to no ends. i was devastated, angry, i couldn't sleep, stayed on msn with
demonology81till wee hours in the morning, licking each other's wounds (T-T). i wanted to believe this is a horrible, horrible joke, something that mamo played on us because he had too much time on hand. yet, my heart soften after watching his video made for fans to explain his circumstances. i forgave him, no, more like i understood him, there and then.
mamo's incident also made me understand the true meaning of a FAN. till the end of 2008, i am a mamo fan, coupled with fantasies of him. i feel uneasy whenever a female seiyuu gets too close to him. the day where mamo got himself attached is unimaginable, a taboo in my heart. but i was amazed with myself for learning to accept mamo and his new family, the love between mamo and his wife impresses me. before i realise it, i already sheded whatever fantasies i have for mamo. mamo now presents himself as a whole new existence in my very eyes. he is someone whom i will always appreciate for his talents and his works. he is transformed into a role model, especially with regards to his working attitude and his sincerity towards to his fans. i am no longer a love-struck fangirl, but a fan who will always support him quietly. now, i view mamo more like a family than a lover, and a seiyuu who i want to protect spiritually (because i am unable to do so physically T-T)
oh, i am also proud of all mamo fans who did not forsake him because of his marriage. yeah, mamo fans went through a tough period, our love for him is tested, but to those who came out of this only to support mamo as what they have always been doing, i want to say, well done!!
finally, mamo is awesome because thanks to him, i got to know two good friends
yukiya_ayase and
demonology81 and the wonderful people on
miyano_fans !
