but is it really, though?

a lot of people seem to be under the impression that if they move to another place, everything in their lives will fall magically into place. this seems to happen a lot with people from Hawaii. They want to move to the mainland because they think things will automatically be better, that they will get everything they wanted and they'll live happily ever after.

Sure, that might be for some people. A change in environment can be good and offer a lot of new opportunities - for jobs, meeting new people, and just different things to do. More than likely, though, most people I know then discover that they still aren't happy and that things still aren't peachy after the move. And they don't know why.

that's because the grass isn't always greener on the other side. as cliche as it is, it's true. the universe isn't going to hand you everything just because you changed locations. things aren't going to be handed to you on a silver platter. life never magically falls into place. you generally don't have your dream job handed to you, nor do you find a billion dollars in a coffee can in your backyard, nor does the perfect person come into your life all at the same time just because you changed your latitudinal and longitudinal location.

if you're constantly looking at the other person's yard, you might not see your own fertile one that's right in front of you. If that's the case, you'll constantly be on the quest for that better thing, for that greener grass... and you might never find it no matter how many times you move or change scenery.

it's like another adage that a friend reminded me of: "wherever you go, there you are."

I'm not a religious person by any means. I'm sure a lot of that is due to having Catholicism shoved down my throat for 17 years going to school. But I am agnostic, and I do believe that everything in the world is connected somehow in the universe. I fully believe in balance in the universe, and that karma gives you what you deserve. it just might not be instantaneous.

a change of scenery might be good, but unless you make changes inside yourself, you're always going to get what you got. the universe knows what you deserve. You get what you put out; you get what you earn.
