Family trip to Valdez

So my fam (Mom, Dad, little brother) and I went on a trip to Valdez, AK this past weekend.  Valdez = a small Alaskan town where tourists like to go, famous for the farthest north ice free port, a stop for Gold Rushers heading to the Yukon, the end of the Trans-Alaska pipeline, and for being a really pretty place on Prince Edward Sound.  Alaskans go there too, it's actually not a horribly touristy place, which is good.  Fairly normal.  We were there during this huge pink salmon run so we spent 2 whole days fishing our bums off.  35 or so fish!  Just using our fishing lines.  It was really pretty fun, altho I must say I'm not a huge fan of hooking and killing the little fishies.  If it were quicker and easier it'd be alright, they are going to die in a few weeks anyway, but I really don't like causing even a fish pain.  *Sigh*  Softie....

Anyhoo, so fishing and some sightseeing.  Saw a couple of Glaciers, which were really cool.  So cool they were chilly in fact, hehehehe.  We had planned to stay at a campground, but there were a bunch of black bears hanging around, and so we figured coolers of fish, small dogs, a small tent, and black bears didn't mix well and we hit up a hotel.  Could've stayed longer without it, since it was fairly expensive, but I must say that I was much happier without bears around, yessireee.  Note to readers: Ana has an unreasonable fear of bears.  No joke.

We saw a big brown mama bear and her cubs (from the car = safe place).  But most awesome were the sea lions!!  Huge huge sea lions were everywhere, just mowing down the fish.  And they were coming close to shore to see what we were doing.  Like within 30 feet!  Such amazing creatures.  Wouldn't want to swim with them (big, pointy teeth!!) but seeing them up close made my week :).

There are the highlights of the trip.  Nice trip, very pretty, if you ever get the chance to see Valdez take it.  I'll post pics either here or on facebook one of these days....  Other than that, life is back to the usual anxiety of dragging myself to various internships and shadowings and jobs while trying to figure out the future.  Speaking of the future, and in particular its fogginess, Harry Potter 7 comes out sooooonnn!!!!!  Can't wait!!!  Still have to read the last 3 books, but still can't wait!!!!!  Woot wooot!
