There is a layer of black connecting us. If we simultaneously stepped upon it at the midnight hour upon the first day of november in bare feet would our souls travel north and south to convene in the exact center if only for a moment? Do trembling tectonic plates stir with the same longing that drives two people together across all space and time crashing and crumbling the rest of the world around it? If I could expand my aura far beyond the small radius and out the hundreds of miles to you would you tingle-could I ignite your colors? If I were to ball myself up and tense every muscle at the same time I could spring up, crash through the ceiling and soar into the atmosphere landing at your door step exhausted and spent.
How do birds die? I have seen the corpses on the street and assume they die on the ground, as humans do. However, can it be possible for a bird to die in the air-heart attack, instant poisoning, the bird flu that threatens all of our health and well-being? Can god reject a soul by rejecting a bird carrying it? Yesterday driving past the baseball stadium we were hit solidly on the roof- at a velocity that made us both flinch and duck- by a fallen blackbird.
