So, here I am, languishing at the home comp on dial-up AOL. Why? Because I keep forgetting to keep the home comp updated to my satisfaction, so I always end up having to download huge chunks of updates (Microsoft, Norton, AdAware, etc.) at one time instead of small manageable chunks every day (like with Shukaku).
XP
It's not too bad though. Once I get everything set up and downloading, I can leave the computer alone (and threaten my dad so he doesn't pick up the phone) and go to the leeched wireless on Shukaku in the comforts of my own room. And I have tater tots in the toaster oven right now, and I shall eat them for a tasty tasty late dinner/snack thing. Also, Blasterball is on this comp (it's a puzzle/pong type game that I happen to like), so I get to play that, too.
For some reason though, whenever I play Blasterball, my mind tends to wander (I'm also reading fics in between levels). I usually end up thinking of a strange KH plotbunny-but-not-exactly type thing.
I suppose it comes from the fact that I like backstories and background explanation type fics. Like, I'm a complete h0r for fics set when Sora, Riku, and Kairi get back to Destiny Islands after KH2 and have to readjust to their lives again. It's a shame there aren't many more written. Why write AU schoolfics, people? Destiny Islands HAS a school. With cute uniforms even!
Destiny Islands really gets the short end of the stick, developmentally-wise. We know it's a number of islands (at least one big one for living on and the Play Island), but after that... nothing. Sora has (at the very least) a mom and a pretty cool looking room. Riku seems to be pretty well off (he's got that HUGE balcony outside his room/attached to his house AND he's got parents). Kairi is the mayor's adopted daughter. There's a school. And apparently, it's not uncommon for children to row little boats across the ocean to the Play Island and beat on each other with wooden swords.
It makes me want to fill in the history and backstory of Destiny Islands SO bad.
Also, I remember seeing fanart and drabbles about Riku's older brothers being Loz, Yazoo and Kadaj, and the idea is unbearably cute. And it prickles my fangirly senses with things like: 'Well, if the Trio are Riku's older brothers, why can't Sora have siblings, too? OMG what if Sora's older brother is Zack?'
And so my insane little not-actually-a-fic-universe-idea-thing where Zack is Sora's (much) older brother, but the reason you don't see him is because he's been off at the military academy (or naval academy might be more appropriate) on a bigger island/the mainland. And he 'ran away from home' because he didn't want to be just a simple fisherman or laborer on the home island, and felt like he had to support his mother and cute younger brother, and the best way to do that was sign up for the military/navy! And Zack's dad walked out on them shortly after Sora was born, because Sora was a love child from a summer fling, and Zack's dad was an asshole from the mainland who never wanted to live on the home island but only married their mother because he knocked her up with Zack.
And so Zack tries to be the best male figure he can be (he's got 10 years on Sora afterall), and is the one who helps instill the want in young Sora to go out an explore the world instead of just stay the same. And he totally didn't want to leave his mom and Sora behind, but thought it would be okay because Sora was old enough to have nice friends like the neighbor boy Riku, and the strange new girl Kairi... and he could sorta trust Riku's older brothers to tell him if anything happened (though he doesn't like the way Kadaj follows him around sometimes).
It would be so cute... a chibi Sora trailing after Zack, hanging on his shirttails, trying to get Zack to teach him some cool moves so that he can finally beat Riku in a fight. *___* And Zack laughing (during a holiday visit) as Sora tries to pick up his buster sword and fails. And Riku laughs and plops on his butt trying to do the same thing.
... I should stop babbling. I think my tater tots are done and I'm hungry.
