[Food Review] Wolfgang Puck Gourmet Lattes

Apr 02, 2006 17:22

The item for this food review is the Wolfgang Puck Gourmet Heated Latte. It comes in four different flavors, but the one I drank was the Rich Caramel Latte. I also have the Rich Mocha Latte and Rich Espresso Latte in the cupboard for further... review purposes.

Now the main selling point of this beverage (besides having Wolfgang Puck's name on it) is that it comes in a self-heating container. That's right! The coffee is all mixed up and ready-to-drink, and the can HEATS ITSELF. AMAZING. And it really works, too! There's very easy to follow instructions right on the label (easy to follow if yo're not, you know, my mom) -- basically, the heating part mixes water with some chemical to cause the can to heat up in a few minutes. Don't worry though, the coffee and the heating unit are separated from each other so there's no icky stuff in your coffee.

I think this is pretty nifty, because in a little over 5 minutes, the can heated up very noticably (not enough to burn if you touch the can though), and it really DID heat up the coffee inside to a very good temperature. When I popped the top, I sorta scalded myself on the hot coffee... but I do that whenever I drink coffee, so I'm used to it. ^^;; The can also stays warm for a pretty long time, which is awesome since I take a long time to drink coffee and I hate when it gets all cold. I nursed my coffee for about 45 minutes, and even after I was done, the can stayed warm for a bit afterwards.

As for the coffee itself, it was surprisingly good! Of course, with Wolfgang Puck's name on it, it should have some sort of standard, you know? But I was worried that the coffee would be... too coffee-ish. I really dislike the taste of coffee itself, which is why I hoped that the Caramel flavor would be sweet enough for me. And it was! I could REALLY taste the caramel and sweetness of the coffee, with minimum coffee taste. I was pretty surprised, since I expected a stronger tasting beverage. Maybe the regular Espresso flavor would be more "coffee", but for me the Caramel was perfect.

And anyone who has ever seen me drink regular coffee knows what I mean when I say that this coffee was sweet enough. XD;;

Also, this is a good single-serving size. I'm used to drinking Grandes from Starbuck's as a "single-serving" (and going up to Venti once the coffee tolerance kicks in), so this was a good amount for me. ESPECIALLY since it stayed warm the whole time. And the shape of the can means minimum of spillage which always makes me happy (the incident when I popped the top notwithstanding).

I would certainly buy this product and drink it on a regular basis, since apparently it comes in 4 and 6-packs, as well as single cans. It's currently on sale at the BX, so I think I'm going to have to swing by there and buy more of the Caramel flavor. I'll have to try the Mocha and French Vanilla, too, just to see if they are also sweet enough for me, or if I'll just stick with the Caramel.

So, if you're on the go, and would like a good, warm, beverage to tote around and don't want to pay Starbuck's prices, this is a good substitute.

COFFEE YAY. ♥
