WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
I went out last night to watch DOOM with
aoi, because we're big dorks like that. And yes, I wanted to see the movie JUST because I knew about the videogame, and because I wanted to see the first person POV sequence. And I must say, I got my money's worth for what I expected.
I won't lie: as a movie on it's own, DOOM has a pretty threadbare plot. But, hell, the whole GAME has a pretty threadbare plot, too. You kill zombies. And monsters. And more zombies. With big guns. And even bigger guns. And with the Big Fucking Gun (BFG). Oh, and with a chainsaw if you wanna get all up close and personal and splattered with gore.
If you like that in the game, you'll enjoy the movie. If you're looking for Academy Awards, or really, if you don't know the game or don't just plain enjoy gratuitous violence and gore and zombie killin', then you probably won't like this movie.
So, for everyone who's a big geek like me, we're moving on. XD!
I have to admit that I squealed and whimpered like a little girl through pretty much the whole movie. I think that was the point though. :P The Rock acted as well as he usually does (which is to say, not very well, but he was okay). I was surprised by the appearance of Eomer! Or, at least, Eomer's actor. :3 Hottie! Yay! There was also the cast of soldiers, who I knew were pretty much cannon fodder. And a girl who, in a surprise twist, is actually Eomer's sister and not a Potential Love Interest for someone (like The Rock).
I mean, this is DOOM. We don't need no stinkin' romance subplots!
The movie DID take an unexpected turn. Well, I started to piece it together during the litte fits of Exposition-Before-More-Killing, but I was still surprised. And then I was THRILLED. The last part of the movie was DEFINITELY worth it. I liked it the best. Hell, my money was worth it for those last fifteen minutes or so of the movie. Don't worry, I won't spoil THAT surprise.
And yes, just like the game, there's a sequence of the movie that is in a first person POV. "Shooter's POV" if you will. OMFG I LOVED IT. I WAS CHEERING AND SQUEALING WITH JOY. THE GUUUUUUUNS! THE SHOOTING! THE CHAINSAW!!! *goes into fits of geeky fangirl joy* Yes yes yes, so worth it for this sequence.
Though, I have to admit, by the end of the movie, I sorta wanted to pair up not!Eomer and his sister. They had a sorta vibe. :3;; I guess I can't get away from that incest.
