Some serious business

Look, it's one of those rare times where I talk about something seriously. Don't fall over in shock. This is all for a good cause.

I want everyone who likes food to go to The Treasure Box.

The Treasure Box is an organization dedicated to helping people out during these admittedly difficult times. The Treasure Box allows people to buy a box of high-quality frozen food worth between $65-100 for only $30; that's roughly enough to feed a family of four for a week (three meals a day even), or one person for a month.

And it's not just a box of pasta, ramen, and cereal -- the boxes include proteins (i.e. meat), fruits and veggies (frozen though, not fresh), and other staples. The "menu" of what's in the box of food changes every month, and there's no limit on how many you can buy. There's also three different boxes that you can order: the regular Treasure Box (as described above), the Hearty Meat Protein Box (a box filled only with meat and proteins, usually as a supplement to the Treasure Box), and the Quick & Healthy Meal Box (pretty much 10 meals already prepared for you i.e.: frozen dinners).

For example, here's the current menu for the month of June. Pretty much, all you have to do is order your box (or boxes) of food by a certain date, then pick it up at whatever location is closest to you. The Treasure Box partners with local community-action organizations, as well as faith-based ones, to get the boxes to people who need and want it.

Also, don't be worried and think you're going to be getting some box of crap food and leftovers. The Treasure Box partners with major food manufacturers (like Heinz, ConAgra, Nestle, Jenny O, etc.) directly to get the food that goes in the boxes, cutting out the middleman suppliers. That's why the boxes can be sold for only $30.

The Treasure Box is really dedicated to helping people save/spend their money wisely, without having to give up things like, you know, eating.

Personally, it makes me sad when I go through my flist or read on other sites about how people are struggling with bills and such, to the point where they're making decisions between rent and food. Everyone who knows me knows that I love food, and I also love it when people I know also love food. So, here is a somewhat-solution that I hope will help people out.

And even if you're not personally interested in the Treasure Box for yourself, please remember it and pass along the word to those you do know who might be struggling.

magellan is a sometimes food, pimping, food, i love my flist, babble
