For those on my flist who are interested, but not really following the news yet, Tokyo Game Show has already started. It's in day two already. :3 I haven't seen any really good announcements yet, but I figure I'll keep tabs on stuff I find interesting (and you might too).
-- Nintendo is dropping the prices on the Wii by $50. That means the system is now only $199. I can confirm this, since I've got a Toys-R-Us ad in my house right now that is advertising the system.
----> This is not only to compete with Playstation and XBox, which have been dropping prices recently, but also timed to match up with the release of the new Wii Sports Resort game, and the Wii Motion Plus.
-- Sony dropped the price of the PS3 by $100 and has released (or will release) the new PS3 Slim version. So for $299 you get a 120GB harddrive, instead of the current (fat) models, which I think are 80GB for the same price. Kind of old news by now, but interesting given how the "console wars" are heating up.
-- Sony also dropped the price of the PSP-3000 by nearly $50, but only in Japan. But in Japan, the PSP base price is more than in the US (over $200 once you convert from yen). I dunno if this means they'll be dropping the US (and UK, for you people across the pond) prices too. But it's pretty much to put the PSP Go into a better position.
----> Also, Sony is apparently going to be running a dual-console strategy between the PSP and PSP Go, instead of the PSP Go being an upgrade for the PSP. Bastards. Evidence of this is that they've pretty much shut down the rumored "trade-in" program for the PSP Go in the US, where you were supposed to trade-in your UMD games for a download to put on your PSP Go. So, that means if you buy the Go, you have to buy your games all over again. What a ripoff. Especially since the PSP Go is already priced like, $50 more than the PSP.
-- Squeenix has a rumored date of December 2009 (that's this December) for the release of FFXIII in Japan. Of course, that means the US (and rest of the world) has to wait longer, because of that crap idea to wait on releasing FFXIII for everyone else until the XBox version is done, too. *shakes fist*
-- Project Natal from Microsoft is still looking awesome.
-- Oh, and Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver apparently crushed the game sales when they were released in Japan. It almost makes me want to pick up one of them when they're released stateside. I love games where I can collect things. ♥
