Personality: Fuu is a honest girl with a kind smile and a gentle and polite demeanor. She is very intelligent, as evidenced by her attending a prestigious private school for gifted children. Being practical-minded, she tends towards statements of the obvious, which lends itself well to her rather quirky sense of humour. She showed herself to be a bit of a voyeur by saying that she enjoyed watching Hikaru look through the Tokyo Tower viewfinder.

It's likely that Fuu did not have any close friends before encountering Hikaru and Umi. At Tokyo Tower she was not closely accompanied by other students from her school as the other two girls were. The reputation of the school was “snobby”, with smart students. Happily, Fuu does not fit that stereotype, but was certainly affected by it's atmosphere. She jumped at the chance to be friendly towards the other girls, showing that she likely felt very lonely.

She admitted to liking square dancing (oddly enough) and RPGs, often comparing their situation in Cephiro to a fantasy game. Fuu is on the archery team at school, showing her to be very disciplined and mature for her age. (Kyuudo students are not even allowed to pick up a bow and arrow for months when they first join the club, needing to learn discipline first.) In introducing herself she included that her blood type is A, in case she needs medical aid - very practical even if strictly unnecessary. According to her bio information she likes sushi, excels at math and computer programming, and wants to be a computer systems engineer.

She is surprisingly accepting of completely unusual situations, like landing on a flying fish in Cephiro. She can take things in calmly and move on to practical matters. She is not foolish or reckless, however. When it came to meeting the mysterious swordsman Ferio in the forest, Fuu convinced the others that they had to be certain if he was friend or foe. She cleverly made an arrangement that was beneficial to them. The swordsman Ferio complimented her that she was 'tricky.' Fuu returned that “being tricky is better than being easily tricked.”

Fuu has deep compassion for others, as shown by her first acquired magical spell being one for healing.
However, her great concern is for herself. She doesn't want to make her family or friends to grieve were something to happen to her, so she determines to take care of herself. In that trial she showed her determination to reach the goal, even though it meant wounding herself deeply as she defeated her other self. This concern for self is not self-centered, as she demonstrates many times in how she sacrificially cares for her friends. She simply feels that making others not worry about her is the best she can do in return for what they give her.

When faced with monsters in the forest, she was the first one to attack, showing her resolve to fight when needed. Fuu truly embraced the idea of 'heart and belief' being the power in Cephiro. With her heart she was able to break the enemy Caldina's control over her and save her friends. In her talk with Caldina, she shared that her strength was coming from her heart, and her desire to protect her friends. Even though she had met Hikaru and Umi just a short time ago, time meant nothing to the bond that they shared.

The tragedy of Emeraude's death wounded her heart deeply. The Magic Knights were meant to be heroes, but ended up killing the one they thought to save. This led to her resolving to not fight without knowing the enemy's heart, as to avoid a tragedy and regret again. They are there to fight for Cephiro and themselves, to avoid regret and to protect everyone. With deep trust in Hikaru and Umi she fulfills this resolution, the three supporting each other greatly.

They are able to save Cephiro from the Pillar system, with Hikaru, Umi and Fuu pulling together in true friendship to save both Hikaru and Eagle from the Pillar's Road. Fuu has found happiness, in both fulfilling the wish with Hikaru and Umi to not give up and help save Cephiro, and in being able to stay with her friends, including those from the other world. This time they are able to leave without regret. In the epilogue Fuu goes with the others to visit the new Cephiro and shyly reunites with her love, Ferio. The land has become one where the belief of everyone's hearts is power and brings peace to them.

Fuu values loyalty to friends and family, accountability for actions taken, cooperation and collaboration, integrity and trust from others, justice and respect for others, gratitude, resourcefulness, wisdom and clever problem solving.

At her core Fuu is methodological. She likes to set out all the facts, think them over, then reach a reasonable conclusion. She can be very determined in the working out of a problem.

Her great psychological strength is her strong will. Whatever she sets her mind to, she will accomplish it. She often comments on the power coming from the strength of one's will in Cephiro.
Her great psychological weakness is the regret she harbored over killing Emeraude. That regret, while helping her to grow in some ways, also hurt her deeply. She will do anything to not experience that again. She is also not completely honest with herself and with others at times.

Strengths/Abilities: Fuu is of just slightly above average strength. She is on the archery club at school and her aim is very accurate, even on a moving target. Has very good evasion and moderate endurance.

[Although in Cephiro her Escudo sword was very large, because it was meant for her only it felt as light as a feather. However, without Clef's armor, she will not have access to her sword in Luministi. She will also be unable to summon Windam, of course.]

By virtue of being in a world where magic works, because her magic is already within her, and the belief of her heart creates the power, she will be able to summon her wind magic.

"Winds of Healing" : A healing spell. Fuu covers her target with soothing winds, healing them. Only works on wounds, not fatigue or illness. Also restores damage in armor and clothing (conveniently).
"Emerald Typhoon" : Fuu's attack spell. She sends out a strong gust of wind towards the enemy.
"Winds of Admonishment" : Fuu covers her enemies within wind and immobilizes them.
"Winds of Protection" : Fuu protects herself and her allies with a barrier of wind.

She is very mature for her age and is able to produce wise strategies. Enjoys reading.
Although she didn't have a chance to use it in Cephiro, she excels at math and computer programming, and wants to be a computer systems engineer.

Weaknesses: She doesn't have any particular physical weakness. However, she is just a slightly-above-average girl, so she has no 'amazing' physical abilities except those that she works for (like her accuracy in archery).

History: Fuu has one older sister, Kuu, and her parents with her. Little is known about Fuu's family life. Fuu's sister is very insightful and gives Fuu some good advice, yet is also very easy-going. Fuu's parents care for her and give her many good opportunities, and Fuu hopes to pay them back one day, when she has grown up. Being intellectually gifted, Fuu has been placed in a prestigious private school.

One day her school happens to be visiting Tokyo Tower for a school trip the same day that two other schools are. From the chance meeting of giving Hikaru a coin to continue watching through the viewfinder and a glance towards Umi, the three are connected in their being called together to another world. A lovely blond-haired princess calls out to them, “help save our world, Legendary Magic Knights!” They sink through the floor and are suddenly plummeting towards a strange new world.

Happily a flying fish saves them from hitting ground, and a giant flying fish is just the start of wonders as Clef the magician approaches them with the explanation for why the girls are there. They have been summoned by the princess Emeraude to become the legendary Magic Knights who will save this land of Cephiro. They cannot return home to Tokyo until they do so. Clef explains the Pillar system, whereby the will is power, and only the Princess would be able to will them home again once her wish for Cephiro to be saved is fulfilled. With no choice (and varying degrees of excitement), the three girls accept the task. Clef gives them armor and enables them to call on magic.

Zagato, the person alleged to have abducted the Princess, watches over the summoning and education of the girls and dismisses them as merely children. He dispatches one of his followers, Alcyone, to deal with the fledgling Magic Knights. She arrives to where they are just as Hikaru has learned how to use her magic. Clef orders the girls to flee to their next destination, Presea's home in the Forest of Silence. There they will acquire weapons that will help them awaken the Spirits so they can become Magic Knights. They are perused by Alcyone, but Hikaru deals with her using fire magic, to the amazement of all.

Arriving at Persea's home they meet first Mokona, the odd, happy-go-lucky creature that is to accompany them, then the woman who will make their weapons, Persea. She sends them on a quest to gather the unique material for their weapons, called Escudo. This is the only material that will allow them to have Evolving Weapons, the key to reviving the Spirits.

Questing through the Forest of Silence towards the Spring of Eterna where the Escudo is, they encounter the wandering swordsman Ferio while battling monsters. Not knowing whether to trust this new character, Fuu makes a profitable deal with him whereby he will escort them to the exit of the Forest because Mokona knows the way out.

Reaching the exit successfully, the girls are about to celebrate when Alcyone ambushes them, giving Umi mortal wounds. Hikaru retaliates with magic, but is also wounded. Umi appeals for magic to help her friend, and she is able to call upon it with the help of Mokona giving a link between her and Clef who teaches her the method. Umi defeats Alcyone with her water magic, but now Hikaru and Umi are terribly wounded. Fuu appeals also for magic to save her friends, and is granted it as well. She heals the two with her wind magic and they reconfirm their friendship with each other.

Having witnessed all this, Ferio is told the complete truth by the girls, and he in turn gives them some more information about Emeraude and the efforts to save her. Mokona then points the way towards the Spring. Having only promised to accompany them to the exit of the Forest Ferio takes his leave, after giving Fuu a parting gift of a golden ring - and taking a kiss to the back of her hand.

The girls have now arrived at the Spring of Eterna - dubbed 'Weirdo Spring of Eterna” by Umi for the fact that it looks like a line (it's clearly a line!) in air from the side. Led by Mokona, the girls jump into the Spring, and into the trial for Escudo.

The girls are each faced with their beloved ones, who attack them. Fuu is faced with her self, and is wounded as she wounds the other Fuu. They are forced to defend themselves, but how can they attack? Emeraude calls out to them, helping them to reason out the puzzle behind the trial. Their true loved ones would not hurt them like this. Fuu agrees that she cares for her self, as to not make those who care about her worry. Summoning new attack magic, the three defeat the trial and take the Escudo.

Rising from the spring Persea is there to greet them and makes them their special weapons. Now in possession of the keys that will awaken the Spirits, Mokona leads them to a palace under the sea.

There Umi is called to awaken the Spirit Celes, who demands a demonstration of her will, a heart worthy of a Magic Knight. Meanwhile, Hikaru and Fuu are attacked by the summoner Ascot who was sent by Zagato to defeat them. In the battle Hikaru are Fuu are at their limit (and Fuu creates a new protective spell). Umi overcomes Ascot's summoned animals with power, but also with compassion. Celes accepts Umi's heart and hides himself within her armor.

Mokona next leads the girls up to the floating mountain. Fuu is drawn away to the Spirit Windam, who asks that she demonstrate to him her worth and strength of heart. Meanwhile Umi and Hikaru have run into Caldina, another minion of Zagato. The woman bewitches the girls, who attack Fuu as she is talking to Windam. Bewildered, Fuu strengthens her resolve, knowing that in Cephiro, belief is power. She is able to summon a new spell that captures her friends and holds them back so that she can go after Caladina. However the woman slips by her and does a new enchantment that forces Fuu to attack her now helpless friends. Recalling her strength of heart, Fuu is able to break the spell and attacks Caladina again. The woman retreats and gives up, saying that her life is not worth the pay from Zagato. Windam, accepting the strength of Fuu's feeling for her friends, hides himself with Fuu.

Next the girls are led to the volcano where Hikaru is called to the Spirit Rayearth. While Hikaru is alone in the shrine, the last person under Zagato, Lafarga, attacks Umi and Fuu. Rayearth demands of Hikaru proof of her heart and leads her outside the shrine, where her friends lay wounded. Hikaru fought with determination to protect her friends but was pinned down. Lafarga happened to reach for Hikaru's sword and the flames from it cleared his mind of Zagato's control. Rayearth accepted Hikaru's heart and the three were able to don the Spirits as Machina.

Soaring past the mirrored sky, the girls came to their final battle with Zagato. However, although he fought with determination he said things that confused the girls. They were able to defeat him, and went in search of Princess Emeraude, thinking that they had saved Cephiro. However Emeraude found them first. She had transformed into a woman full of vengeance for her love Zagato, so different from the child-like princess from their visions before. The truth that Emeraude had called the Knights there to kill her shattered them. They could barely understand what the last vestiges of Emeraude's sane mind told them: that if the Pillar of the world loved a man, she would not be able to pray wholeheartedly for the peace of the world. The Magic Knights were the only way by which the Pillar could commit suicide and release her heart. Tragically, the girls acquiesced to her last wish.

They returned to Tokyo Tower a mere instant in time after they had left, holding each other and in tears.

Some short time later in Tokyo, Hikaru, Umi and Fuu decide to meet at Tokyo Tower again. On her way out, Fuu's sister Kuu walks with her a while. She has noticed that their parents are worried about Fuu, which is unusual because Fuu tries hard to not make them worry. Kuu encourages her to talk to someone who would understand her trouble. Fuu knows that she is right, and that her friends Hikaru and Umi are the only ones she can talk to about what is hurting her heart.

Arriving at the Tower, the girls talk about the past and their regret. Hikaru declares that she wants to return to Cephiro and help the country Emeraude treasured. When the other two agree, they are caught up in a flash of light like the first time they were summoned to Cephiro. As they fall through the sky the scenery is completely different, but Clef's pet Fyula saved them again, so they know it is Cephiro.

They arrive at the solitary safe place in the land, a great castle that is surrounded by the decaying landscape outside. There friends from their last visit greet them and inform them about Cephiro's state. Lacking the Pillar, the land is coming apart. To make matters worse, invaders hoping to seize the weakened land and become the new Pillar are coming from three neighboring countries: Autozam, Chizeta and Fahren. Wanting to help Cephiro and fight for their own hearts this time, as well as try and find whomever summoned them, the three girls ask to reacquire their weapons and join the fight.

Immediately they clash with Eagle of Autozam, and Lantis, who was Zagato's brother, enters the fray.

That evening the girls all struggle separately with the reality of their new situation and past regrets. Fuu encounters Ferio while she is wandering the halls and they talk together. Ferio shows great concern for Fuu, and returns to her the golden ring that he'd given her previously in the Forest of Silence. Fuu sheds tears for Ferio's sister Emeraude who had given him the rings, regretting having killed her and hurting Ferio by doing so. However Ferio asks only that Fuu smile, as his sister had never been able to.
While resting in the Castle the girls try to encourage each other. Kuu's advice heartens Fuu, and she shares with the others that they three share a special experience like none other. It's difficult when no one else understands, but together they can share their worries and work to figure things out.

At that time another piece of Cephiro is lost and everyone feels the imminence of their situation. Clef speaks about the Road of the Pillar and that the ability needed to become the Pillar can be within someone from another country. The countries approach Cephiro and Hikaru and the others resolve to find out what the enemy really wants before they battle them.

Fahren and Chizeta do battle with the Magic Knights but the two countries defeat each other. Lantis and Clef talk about the past of Cephiro and the love of Zagato and Emeraude, wondering if this land is truly beautiful, because of the sacrifice of the Pillar system. Lantis goes outside the Castle in search of the Road of the Pillar. Lafarga wonders if he's not a spy for Autozam, but Hikaru defends him.

While Umi and Fuu talk about the unfairness of the Pillar system and their resolve to fight together and find happiness, the countries attack again. Fahren starts first, entangling Umi in their magic. However, she is able to break free with the strength of a spell. Chizeta is about to follow in attack when Autozam's Road somehow manages to punch through the Roads of the other two countries, showing Eagle's great mental power. Hikaru manages to pass through Autozam's Road to catch a glimpse of Eagle before being repelled out again, unconscious.

Eagle delivers an ultimatum to the other two invading countries, asking them to carefully consider their reasons for taking Cephiro. If they will not back down, Eagle will fight them. Although reconsidering taking Cephiro, Chizeta and Fahren decide to continue on to find for themselves what happened to the previous Pillar and talk to the people of Cephiro.

As the battle between the invaders begins, the Road to the Pillar begins to appear. Once the Magic Knights take on the Machina Spirits, a voice declares that the time has come. It tells of the strength and shortcomings of Chizeta and Fahren and that Lantis is the strongest heart in Cephiro. However, the voice declares Eagle and Hikaru to be the strongest of all and therefore the candidates for being the next Pillar. The voice belongs to Mokona, the creator of the world, who transports the two candidates to a Tokyo frozen in time through the Road of the Pillar. Only the one who returns will be the worthy Pillar. As Hikaru fights with Eagle and struggles to understand him, Umi and Fuu plea to Mokona to let them fight together with Hikaru.

Hikaru declares that she never wants to regret again, and a new Road opens - Hikaru is the new Pillar and must leave Eagle behind to disappear. Hikaru insists on returning together with Eagle, and with the power of the friendship between her and her friends, they are able to do so. Hikaru declares Cephiro to become a land where the hearts of all the people will become the power of the land. In this way, Cephiro becomes the land of all who love it, there will be no person as a single sacrifice for the sake of others. The Pillar system is defeated and the future will be in the hands of the people of Cephiro.

Following that, Hikaru, Umi and Fuu are able to go to Tokyo Tower and from there visit Cephiro any time they like. Fuu shyly reunites with Ferio, who says that she brings his happiness with her. The neighboring countries are now part of discussions for how to improve each other's countries. The future is bright with change for the better. The girls, and everyone else, have found happiness and have no regrets.

Canon Point: From shortly after the end of the manga story. From the 'epilogue' of the manga, it is 'present day' in Tokyo. Fuu and the others have resumed their normal lives, except that they occasionally travel to 'New Cephiro' from Tokyo Tower.

First Person Sample:
Math test tomorrow morning, group English project due in the afternoon...
[Flipping through her schedule Fuu murmurs quietly to herself. Walking the familiar path to the train station, she hardly pays attention to her surroundings.]

Why must teachers have things due on the same day? It's a conspiracy.
[The lamentation was not completely heart-felt, however. She knew that she would do well in the math test. It was the group project she was more concerned about. Hence the early-morning meeting with her group at school before classes began.]

[Then, between one step and the next, between one blink and the next, something happened.]
[Spots dancing before her eyes as if someone had taken several flash pictures of her, Fuu looked about her, blinking furiously.]

Oh? Oh?
What is this? ...Clearly this is not the train station.

[Clearly not, for as the purple afterimages fade, Fuu is able to see that she is in some sort of home before a noise catches her attention.]

“Hello and good morning! It gives me great pleasure to be able to greet you and welcome you to the Town of Luministi...”

[Turning Fuu sees the great flat TV with the man greeting her. Listening carefully to the information the man - Mayor Constantine Caligin - gave, she was able to understand her situation a bit better. ...A bit.]

So it's not Tokyo. But how could I have gotten to another world that is not Cephiro? [Tilting her head a bit she rests one finger on her cheek.] Someone must have summoned me.
[Trying to recall her last moments in Tokyo, all she could bring to mind was bright light, a vague impression of a tall man in black, and... something in his hands, perhaps?]
Well, no matter who it was, I should hope that they would have a reason for doing so. Perhaps it's like Cephiro, where once we do what needs to be done, we will go home... [A dark expression clouds her face for a moment, recalling the first time this had happened to her, and the tragedy that followed.]

[With a blink she looks around more carefully.] And I say 'we', but there is no one else here! I wonder if Hikaru and Umi were summoned as well. And I'd best find out what this world needs. After all, [she adds with a sad sigh,] I do have that group project due tomorrow. My teammates will be upset if I can't hand in my part.

[Finding the gift basket on the coffee table Fuu begins to go through it, hoping for more information. The scent of the flowers is enjoyable, and trying a cookie she found it to be very tasty.]

What a generous gift basket. Even pomegranates...
[She doesn't like them because they're hard to eat, but they are fairly expensive so she appreciates them being there all the same.]

[After carefully reading every notice in the basket including the address from Mayor Caligin again she turns her attention to the CAT. With delight she spends a long time going through the options available on the device.]

Extraordinary! And it can even project a hologram? This is far beyond the current technology on Earth. I wonder if they'll let me take it with me when I go? [Which of course brought her back to the point.]

I'd best find someone from this world and see what is happening. Having direction is important, and maybe someone will know if that man in black is... a summoner? A Pillar for this world? A god like Mokona?

[With a giggle for that idea, she accesses a map of Luministi on the CAT and considers her options.]

In Cephiro, Clef was there to greet us. Well, really it was Fyula first, but she couldn't talk, so... Okay. I need to find someone like Clef. Maybe Mayor Caligin? But being a Mayor, what if he's busy...? He did sound busy in that announcement. Well, I should try. And if not, then the Library.

[Thus resolved, Fuu took the provided bike (surprisingly well-set to her height) and took off towards the Mayor's office...]

Third Person Sample:
Even in a land of eternal spring, rain had to fall upon the land sometimes.

“Ah, it's raining,” stated Fuu as they entered the world of New Cephiro.
“Aww, that means that we won't be able to have a picnic outside,” said Hikaru, her bright eyes wide with disappointment.

“Don't worry, we can still have it inside the glass atrium,” Fuu consoled her with a smile.
“It's not the same, but you have to admit that it's nice getting together with everyone, no matter the weather,” said Umi, flipping her long blue hair behind her as she hefted the basket of dessert.
With an enthusiastic nod Hikaru ran ahead with her basket of dishes and blankets. “Hurry, guys! Hurry, hurry!” she called back over her shoulder.
“Cute Hikaru, as enthusiastic as ever,” sighed Umi as she shared a smile with Fuu. “I see why you gave her that basket - she'll run ahead and get everything set up by the time we come with the food.”
With a knowing grin Fuu simply nodded.

As they walked along the smooth white corridors of the castle Fuu admired the view through the rain. The ring of floating land was barely visible, and Fuu wondered if they were getting rain up there as well. Ferio had told her that the people who had settled on that land had called it 'Windam' in honour of her and her machin. Fuu blushed at the very thought.
“Is something the matter?” Umi asked, her concerned blue eyes suddenly filling Fuu's vision.
“No, no,” Fuu assured her hurriedly, waiving the one hand that was not carrying her basket full of lunch. “I was just thinking of Windam. That is, the land of Windam.”
Umi looked out the window then back at Fuu with a grin. “Ah, you're still embarrassed over that? Don't worry about it! At least they didn't use our first names for things.” She said it very seriously, but a small grin broke onto her face that Fuu echoed. There had been a moment where the people had been about to call the ocean surrounding Cephiro 'Umi', but Umi had insisted that it was far too literal a name, for 'umi' meant 'sea' in their language.
Fuu nodded. “Celes is very nice name for an ocean.”
“That's right!”

Just then the rain intensified pounding loudly on the windows and lightning streaked though the sky. Three breaths later the rumble of thunder came. Fuu paused and turned to stare out the window.
“It reminds me of that time...”
Umi nodded. There was no need to say what time. The first time they had come to Cephiro there had been no thunder and lightning, but the second time...
The second time, the world had been in chaos. She had stood at windows very much like these and looked out upon the storm that was the decaying world of Cephiro.
Then, Ferio had come and talked to her.
Fingers pressed to the glass of the window Fuu very nearly cried again at the memory - her apologizing to Ferio for being impertinent, his gentle forgiveness. Then, him giving her the ring again, telling of his sister Emeraude's wish for his happiness. Telling of his wish for Fuu to always smile.

Catching sight of her faint reflection in the glass Fuu smiled. She smiled at the land of Windam and the sea of Ceres barely visible through the rain, and she turned and smiled at Umi who was standing with her in the castle of Rayearth.
“You looked really serious there for a moment. You really all right?” Umi asked again.
Fuu nodded and smiled brightly.
“For certain. Everything came out fine, and will always be so as long as we believe in the people we love, together.”
