They make their way into a room at the far end of the hallway; it was a studio with wide windows. The curtains were drawn, showing a view of the mountains outside. Sungmin imagined what the room would look like in the mornings, with the whole place bathed in sunlight. Canvases of various sizes littered the floor, some unfinished, some in easels, others were unrecognizable to Sungmin until he catches a glimpse of familiar yellow writings on one of them. Sungmin turns and tries to catch a better look, belatedly realizing that this must be Kyuhyun’s studio but Hankyung was already urging him deeper into the room, guiding him towards another easel.
And then Sungmin sees it. A brown toned painting sat at the corner of the room, Sungmin’s eyes lands on an image, it was a painting, almost a caricature of a thin man in a thread bare shirt, hanging loosely on a bony shoulder. At first Sungmin didn’t see the resemblance, all he saw was a painting of a sad miserable person, that is until details of the man’s features became clearer. Pale lips, a gaunt face with dark circles under those large set eyes stared back at him. Taunting him in its misery and ugliness. The face was foreign, it wasn’t Sungmin but as he stumbles back, the face branding in Sungmin’s mind even if he closed his eyes.
Sungmin knew. And maybe Kyuhyun did too... It was the truth.
“Are you okay?” Hankyung’s worried face hovered above him.
“I feel sick.” Sungmin whispers and staggers to the ground. He didn’t remember how Hankyung had dragged him into a bathroom, couldn’t even comprehend how he managed to sit upright at the bowl, where he heaved and spilled all the contents of his stomach.
