Reviews of stuff I watched.
Up - Pixar's latest effort, about a grouchy old man and a chatterbox boy who embark on an adventure. Well, after watching it, and in 3D no less, I thought it was good. I mean, it's definitely worth the ticket money. But, it's not as great as everyone is making it out to be. If we can take a step back from the gushing, you can see that [Up] is honestly not on the same level as Pixar's earlier efforts. But yeah of course, the movie's still good. I'm just rather sad that it will probably win the Oscar over [Coraline], which is superior in all aspects but simply not as feel-good.
FMA Brotherhood Episode 19 - It's VERY good, as I already knew it would be, lol. Watching Roy Mustang in full action and emotional upheaval is a huge pleasure. Furthermore, Lust is every bit as powerful and engaging, as Mustang's adversary. Their battle is wonderful to watch, kudos to the animators! I'm just hoping that later on, they will slot in the other action setpieces involving Envy, Ling Yao (and his sidekicks), Gluttony and Wrath.
Rosy Business 巾幗梟雄 - It's this HK TVB drama that I'm slowly downloading. I'll much prefer to watch this on TV though so I'm waiting for the DVDs. I actually fell in love with the cast before even watching it - Wayne Lai, Sheren Tang (who was spectacular as Lady Ru in War and Beauty), Kara Hui, Ron Ng (who left me a favourable impression in Emergency Unit). I'll definitely give a much more detailed review of this show once I'm done with it.
Black & White - A Taiwanese drama that is actually good - good enough to warrant a positive review in the newspapers anyway, and good enough for me to actually download. I think it's coming to TV here soon. At any rate, Taiwanese dramas, specifically those involving teenybopper idols, are NOT my thing. My pet peeve is how the characters love to verbalise their thoughts in long, rambly monologues with accompanying pained expressions, as though their acting simply isn't good enough to convey their feelings/emotions/thoughts without to SAY it out for the viewers to understand.
