Hello Winconners!

It's getting close to that time again! Yes, I'm talking about programming submissions! We will be running submissions for six weeks this year, opening on March 1st and closing on April 17th. There have been some small changes in our programming format from years past, the number one being that we will now be having four tracks ( Read more... )

Does anyone want to run a fanart for people who can't draw workshop? I ask because I am a fandom person who can't draw but looks at a lot of fanart and goes "that's super cool! I wish I could do that!"

I would attend this! But yeah, can't run it. But like. Seconding your thoughts here. Vote of confidence, rah rah etc.

Do you mean a basic how-to on drawing? Or how to get started drawing? I could maybe do something like that. I don't do too much fanart, but I've drawn a little (http://archiveofourown.org/users/bshmatthews/works). I'm self-taught too, so I could at least share the resources I've found helpful.

Or do you mean, making fanart without drawing skills, but other artistic skills? Collage or photoshop? That would be neat too, but I wouldn't be much help.

Hmmm I'm not sure. Maybe a little of both? I don't know if that would be a cohesive workshop though. I was definitely thinking about drawing when I made the original suggestion, so yeah, a basics of drawing would be super! Maybe mostly drawing with some guidance about how to get the drawings into the magical computer box as well? If you're not comfortable with that aspect maybe there's someone who does more of that who might co-lead a workshop with you?

One thing I'm interested in talking about/hearing other people talk about, is kind of a history of fandom panel (i.e. the ebs and flows of trends, "classic" literature, progression of feminism and LGBTQ/gender related issues , race representation, religious representation, etc. in fandoms as a whole), but I'm not really sure how to go about organizing/defining what that might be...

Maybe a roundtable for educators who have found or want to find ways to use fannish practices in the classroom. I am thinking to perhaps center it on teaching writing, maybe also with a focus on adapting online technologies to create useful workshop space. It would be for teachers of any student demographic. Who's down???

Sweet! I have been wanting to do something like this for a while. Do you teach writing, then?

Oooh, I like this idea! I know Princeton has a course on fanfic that is currently going on, so looking at their reading list might be a good place to find a fic that's interesting and diverse enough so that everyone will be able to contribute something to the conversation.

Definitely! I'd just hate to see someone's idea maybe shot down because it's not in a trendy fandom or something like that.
