We had a massive snow-fall on Sunday night. About a foot of snow fell around my house. The snow has virtually not moved in the three following days.
It's been an interesting experience. I had to dig out my driveway, so I could get the car out. The driveway is about sixty metres long and it was covered in a foot of snow. I think it took me three hours to dig out.
Three of the trees around my house fell down, from the physical weight of snow that had built up on them. Thankfully, the trees all fell away from any buildings.
Electric power was off for about a day at my house. However, it was out for three days at Christine's house. She had to stay with me for two days.
People can be strange, though. The same day the snow fell in the south, power was disconnected for a few hours in one area of Auckland city. Almost constantly since then, most of the news media has been talking about the power failure in Auckland.
It's a strange thing. We've all been snowed under and many people in the south have still not regained their power. A lot of farmers have lost sheep, cows and cattle. Yet, seemingly the biggest concern for New Zealand has been the short power failure in Auckland.
It has been an interesting experience.
