Well, the final results of the election are now in;
http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/0,2106,3429838a6160,00.html National have done well, but not anywhere near well enough to win. It's sad, of course. I can now look forward to another three years of constantly rising taxes, interest rates, inflation and depressing news about government waste. That's the basic fact of government with the scum, they're there to throw money at special interests and ride on the back of tax-payers.
So, it's a depressing situation. But, the election result, itself, is not the thing that really worries me. I'm more worried about our weak constitutional arrangements and the general lack of discussion about their weakness. There's been virtually no genuine commentary on the Maori seats, the fatal flaws of our proportional system, the dangers of highly centralized government, etc, etc.
I'm not really worried about the latest political scandals, or whatever. Instead, I'm worried about the structure of the system and the results that the system produces. In that respect, I am just not comfortable with our system. It feels like a system that encourages scum, while discouraging conservative ideals.
