Морган - это молодая косатка, которую выловили у берегов Голландии в 2010 году. На тот момент она была очень истощена, так что ее поместили в местный дельфинарий, откормили и более-менее выходили.
С самого начала этой истории говорилось, что Морган будут стараться вернуть в естественнюу среду обитания. Но когда пришло время ее выпускать обратно в море, голландские власти сделали то, что у меня в голове до сих пор не укладывается - они передали Морган в аквариум Лоро Парк на Тенерифе. Я бы очень хотела знать, кому первому пришла в голову эта мысль, и поместить их самих в этот сраный аквариум, чтобы плавали там до посинения. Еще хотелось бы узнать, сколько конкретно денег они получили за эту мысль, и скормить им эту сумму по монетам.
Так вот Лоро Парк. Ко всему прочему, он славен своей группой из пяти captive-born косаток, которые регулярно демонстрируют всякое отклоняющееся от нормы поведение и нападают на тренеров, а одного так и вовсе убили. Нападения, правда, чаще всего описываются политкорректным словом incidents, но факт в том, что тренеры в воду с косатками больше не заходят. Вот в такую теплую компанию угодила Морган.
В итоге, спустя два года этой confined, neurotic life Морган практически до мяса стерла себе подбородок о бортик аквариума, разбила себе нос о стены аквариума и повредила себе зубы о решетки аквариума. Это все результаты так называемого stereotypical behaviour. Проще говоря, выросшее в океане животное просто дуреет в ограниченном пространстве, бьется о стены и кусает решетки. Помимо того, упомянутая выше группа косаток регулярно нападает на Морган - 320 следов от укусов, добро пожаловать в Sea World и это только начало. Если она останется в заключении, ее ждут дальнейшие нападения, стачивание зубов, инфекции, антибиотики, искусственное осеменение, очень вероятное отторжение детеныша и меньше 20 лет жизни вместо 60-80.
Завтра, 1 ноября в Амстердаме состоится повторное слушание дела Морган. За нее выступает Free Morgan Foundation во главе с доктором Ингрид Виссер, которая собрала документальные подтверждения неблагополучия Морган в аквариуме. Ее поддерживают Жан-Мишель Кусто, принц Монако Альберт и еще 130 тысяч людей. Я не знаю, чем закончится это слушание. Мне очень важно, чтобы Морган отпустили домой.
Morgan is a young female orca who was taken from the wild in June 2010. She was dramatically underweight but otherwise not ill. She was captured by an ‘abusement’ park who had a permit to rescue her on the condition she was released back to the ocean as soon as possible. This did not happen. Morgan was put 'on show' to the public within weeks of her 'rescue'. It became clear that she was worth money to the park. Furthermore, given that she is the first wild-caught orca to come into captivity in 25 years, they know that she is vital to their breeding program.

1. Why were orca experts prevented from entering Dolphinarium Hardervijk much earlier to obtain DNA and vocal recordings of Morgan to find her pod (all pods have their own dialect), eventually being allowed in after the first court hearing a year later?
2. How did Sea World know about Morgan before orca experts had chance to work with her? Dolphin Hardervijk sold another wild caught orca, Gudrun to Sea World in 1987. The sale of orca is now illegal and there is no evidence that Morgan was exchanged for money although there are reports that dolphins may be on their way to DH.

Dr Visser said she had observed Morgan at Loro Parque for 77 hours over eight days, and saw 91 acts of aggression against Morgan by other orca in the tank. She had documented 320 bite and puncture marks on the orca's body, not including injuries inflicted by Morgan's own abnormal behaviour such as banging her head against the side of the tank.

Orca are incredibly big, fast, intelligent, social creatures that live a very long time - in the wild.
The second thing that people really need to bear in mind is that a captive orca is worth in excess of $1,000,000. That is just their individual worth and doesn’t include the revenue they bring into a captive display facility. Morgan represents another breeding vehicle with fresh DNA to add to the captive industry’s ever-shrinking gene pool. She is a star attraction, a commodity. She represents money and she is disposable.
To me, Morgan is very simply a wild orca. And there is only one side of this court case that the wild orca experts are standing on - and that is the side fighting to return Morgan to her natural habitat where she belongs.

There is no excuse for Morgan's captivity. No parent should have to explain to a child that this is okay; that is a lie, it's not -- and it should never be told again. Release Morgan, return her to the sea, if she will die in the wild, then she will die, wild, free.
