This was not good.
After slipping on an enchanted ring, Galion found himself...changed. His hands were smaller, his waist slimmer, and his chest...bigger. Running to his mirror, he was horrified that he had now become female.
“What do I do?” he asked out loud.
The newly-turned elleth racked his mind. He could not neglect his duties to serve King Thranduil, but he could not do so in his state. If anyone were to find him like this, especially Thranduil, Calegdâl, or Annechui...
He shuddered. There was a reason Annechui, the chief of the guards, was given the nickname “long spear,” and it wasn’t because he was skilled at weaponry. Galion had to think fast. Dinner would be served soon, and it was imperative that he was present. He lacked the necessary clothing to hide his face, but nor could he wander the Halls dressed as a male. Digging around through his possessions, Galion found a dress that had belonged to his sister, who was now residing in Lothlórien. He swallowed hard, gathering courage, and then he changed as quickly as possible while keeping his eyes closed.
Once the task was complete, he checked his reflection in the mirror to see if he was passable. He was in the middle of fixing his hair when he stopped just to stare at his reflection. He looked almost exactly like his sister. So much so, they could pass as twins. An idea struck him. That would be his alibi. He would pretend to be his sister on a visit, and he could still do his duties. Galion grinned. He was confident the plan would work. All he had to do was act like his sister and make sure he avoided any unnecessary mistakes. After taking a few deep breaths, he stepped outside his room and walked down the corridor.
As he traveled through the Halls, he was amazed at how no one was surprised to see his sister back. The most reaction he got out of anyone was a simple “Good day.” He almost laughed after they were out of earshot.
“Auriel!” He heard behind him just before being grabbed by the shoulder and being spun around.
Galion’s eyes widened in terror when he saw the Elf in front of him. Annechui! Ai Elbereth, help me...
The chief of the guards stood with a large grin on his face. “Auriel, what are you doing back here? I was not expecting to see you again for an age.”
Think, Galion. “Well...I...wanted to see my brother again. It has been a long time.”
“I suppose that is true, but were you not also coming back to see me as well? I have missed you as well.” Annech took Galion’s hand and kissed the back of it. Galion focused on trying not to heave. Instead he backed away and into the wall of the corridor. “Why are you so nervous, Auriel?” the other Elf asked. “Do not tell me that you developed cold feet while living with the Galadhrim.”
The only thing that concerned Galion now was getting away. “Please, excuse me, Annechui. I really must be going.”
Annechui tilted his head slightly. “Since when did you decide to call me by my given name? I thought you liked calling me ‘Annech.’ You said that name best suited me.”
Elves never fall ill, but in Galion’s case, this was the opportune time for a first. “Please...Annech,“ just saying that word left a bad taste in his mouth, “...I really must speak with my brother about something urgent.”
Annechui sighed. “Very well, but before you do, Auriel, may I ask one simple favor?”
Finally, a chance to get out of this mess. “Anything you wish.”
With sly smile, Annechui bent and whispered into Galion’s ear, “Meet me in my chambers at ten tonight. We have a lot of catching up to do.” With that, he reached and put his hand on Galion’s chest.
That was it. Galion had enough of Annechui’s antics and kicked him in the spot where it was the most painful. Annechui dropped to his knees and curled into the fetal position while holding his crotch with both hands.
Galion breathed a sigh of relief before placing his foot on the fallen maethor. “The bigger something is, the more vulnerable it is. Do not ever touch me again.” He spun around and continued down the hall.
