The rain poured from a sky that darkened hours ago. Kaoru had stood by the window for forty five minutes now. A cup of coffee, black, in his hand, sipping the beverage that now was cold. Brown eyes watching the block's playground that should been empty by now.
But Toshiya held the playground company. Right now he was spinning the swing to it's limit so when he lifted his feet it would spin around in imitation of a carousel.
Before it had starting to rain Toshiya had tried the slide a couple of times, moving to the sandpit to make a sandcastle. A cone got the honour to protect the castle.
Kaoru had to smile at the scene, nibbling on a cookie he had found in the larder. Smile of the knowledge that even if Toshiya was in his thirties and had put on a serious mask for the cameras he still would go to the playground for comfort.
Kaoru put down his mug on the windowsill, brushing crumbs down into his palm to toss away in the staircase. He took his time to put on shoes and jacket, to find the keys in his bag and take the umbrella that stood in the hallway corner.
Toshiya could easily hear Kaoru coming when the gravel started to groan under the guitarists weight. Toshiya forced the swing to turn halfway to show Kaoru his back.
Silence when Kaoru stopped. The gravel didn't protest any more. Left way to the raindrops to sing against the umbrellas fabric that now hovered over Toshiya.
“I'm already wet, you know”, the bassist stated.
“I know.”
But Kaoru didn't withdraw the umbrella to protect his own hair.
“Thought you would come in when it started to rain”, Kaoru continued after several heartbeats had passed in silence.
“Didn't want to.”
Silence again. Kaoru smiled at Toshiya's back. Toshiya lifted his feet to let the swing turn back to its natural position to avoid to be caught in the puddle of mud and water that increased it's territory.
“You look like a drenched cat”, Toshiya informed Kaoru with a crooked smile.
“I feel like one too.”
Toshiya stood. Stepped closer to Kaoru. The movement forced Kaoru to move the umbrella over both of them; Toshiya's tallness making Kaoru to lift his arm higher into the air.
With a smile Toshiya placed his fingers on the umbrella's handle, letting Kaoru's arm to fall down against his side.
“We should go inside. Don't want you to get sick.” Kaoru was the one to break the silence under the umbrella; forced himself to take a step from their umbrella world out to the real world surrounding them.
“You could get sick too, you know”, Toshiya replied and years of knowledge made him walk in perfect harmony with Kaoru, the umbrella flawlessly covered them both.
“Yeah”, was all Kaoru answered, braided his fingers together with Toshiya's. They both squeezed the other's hand harder at the same time; the action passed for the excuse that never was spoken out loud.
“Alright, the last to the door gets to make the hot cocoa!” Toshiya announced suddenly, the steps already advancing to a run.
The umbrella left Kaoru's head; coaxing him to run after the man holding it.
Kaoru lost.
But silenced laughter could be heard in the stairway.
Loving smiles shared between the lovers while the keys opened the front door to their home.
Safely back.
This time again.
