Part VI: Getting worse and worse

Jul 11, 2010 11:10

I ought to have written something about the saga after the induction day, oughtn't I? You know, instead of squeeing over Classics, Whee. This is actually a fairly "important" update--important in that it'll probably alter the decision I'll make in the end--so here we go.

I forgot to mention in my excitement that there are actually two Classics classes this year. Admittedly, I am currently in the one with all my friends (or, at least, those who are taking it), and I would prefer not to sit in a class full of strangers, but I'm sure I could cope if I needed to switch for the sake of Latin. No. Classics doesn't appear to be a problem.

However, Englang only has one class, meaning that if I have to make a choice, it won't be between Classics and Latin. It'll be between English Language and Latin.

Back in Part I, I expressed excitement that I would not have to do an MFL to do Linguistics, because Cambridge only wants Englang and possibly another language. For Linguistics, every uni wants Englang (and possibly another language). Latin is my possible other language. Gives me an edge, as it were. See--Classics probably won't help me too much for Linguistics. I love the subject and all, but I don't think Cambridge would care particularly if they saw I had chosen Latin over Classics.

Do you see where I'm coming from now? This choice is, as far as I can tell, the worst-case scenario, and it's looking horrifyingly likely. I don't know what I'll choose if it comes to it. Probably Englang, because that'll get me into a uni, if not necessarily Cambridge. But it'll also mean I won't be able to continue on with Latin, and my putting "translation aspect" as my choice for choosing Classics will look even sillier than it does already.

In conclusion: fuck you, John Fisher. Fuck you very much.
