Last night when I visited my mum in hospital, she reminded me that the hairdresser visits the ward on Tuesdays, and asked me to book her in with the ward staff.
I trotted off to ask the (male) staff nurse sitting at the desk, and made my very reasonable request, cheerfully and pleasantly, as I always do.
He said; I can't concern myself with people's hair. I have their well-being to look after.
Me; (grinning and wondering for a moment if he was joking; surely he must be?)Well-being includes PSYCHOLOGY
him; I can't split myself in two directions
me; (furious now, straight back into nursing officer mode, and automatically loudly out to embarrass him) AH! I get it! - You're a BLOKE! You can't multi-task!
He had no answer; just looked amazed at anyone challenging him
Other (female) staff nurse; no bother - I'll do it.
Mum; he's bloody useless, him
As my husband said, when I told him; what have we left behind in the Profession?
love and blessed be
