Her voice is a low whisper but deadlier than a thousand threats and he knows better than to disobey. So he just kisses her neck, settling into a steady rhythm until they both shake with mute release.

"He died an hour ago," he says evenly and turns to leave without offering comfort (can they even do that anymore?), not wanting to stick around and watch her break.
He's already at the end of the corridor when he hears the feral cry.
