The Ex

From time to time I will rant about bands I like or really love. G.W. Sok has stepped down from being the singer of The Ex. A position he had held for 29 years. The Ex is one of the most important bands in current punk rock/indie community. They're from amsterdam, and they gonna be going on their 30th anniversary tour in march. to know and understand the ex's catalog is a daunting task. they've been a band for close to 30 years, and have never been inactive. Go to their website that have done at least some level of significant touring every single year since 79. They have maintained being a band in the same way they were a band when they started, they're still "anarcho" "political" "important" "hard workers" they've been a band for 30 years and had records that have collaborated with musicians from ethiopia, ukraine, egypt, kenya, japan and they tour in the sense that they want really great musicians to get seen by people or they experience other countries in the sense of music. They've been a band for 30 years, and by a sense I'm sure they make money off this, but by no means are they making a comfortable living off of it, and to me thats the only real genuine thing I can ever look at as far as music and touring. they're in their 50's and still have the right ideals to make great music and the ideas behind music and community. I will be a bit bummed to not hear Sok's voice on future Ex records, but the man has put more of his life into this than band than not in this band, and I cannot blame him for bowing out.
