Capitalism has utterly destroyed our country.
Oh, this is nothing new, I'm just reminded as I read today's headlines.
Big business and the quest for American success (money) has pushed us as a society to put all of our faith in the almighty dollar and forsake the call of the Almighty.
Q. Why is gas so expensive?
A. Because Exxon/Mobil's CEO just retired and the company is giving him a 400 million dollar retirement package. How are they paying for that? A gallon at a time my friends, a gallon at a time. Personally, I'm boycotting the company.
Moving on...
Our government is run by multi-millionaires who are in charge of their own payroll (first mistake.) So, naturally, their decisions will be made from the standpoint of someone who:
1.) CAN afford pricey healthcare
2.) CAN pay 3.13/gallon for gas
3.) CAN make money off of big businesses and inflation
Someone please tell me how any of this is good.
As soon as a business becomes profitable, it wants to be more profitable. I get it, that's business. I'm down, let's make money. My concern is that there are multi-billion dollar businesses that are making money they don't need. I may sound like a communist here (which I am NOT), but would it be an atrocity to regulate relatively how much profit a business can make? Maybe cars, gas, and a college education would be a bit more easy to obtain. I understand the horrible sacrifice that the CEO's of these companies would make (possibly losing one of their summer beach houses, or only having 3 Ferrari's that sit in their 10 car garage) but somehow we have to get to point where the government is actually "for the people."
I'm not a moron, I know regulating profits is not rational and would almost go against the
premise of our countries commitment to "the pursuit of happiness," but somethings gotta give.
In the meantime, I'm buying a hybrid.
