True Love's Kiss

Feb 05, 2013 23:39

Spencer had fallen into a deep and permanent sleep. He wouldn't age, wouldn't waste, wouldn't die. But he was doomed to sleep until he received true love's kiss. This was a real roadblock for Willy who needed the man to help him find Avalon. He could not stand idly by while Spencer slept away precious time in the realm of the fae ( Read more... )

Spencer woke with a gasp- as if waking from a bad dream- and he paniced as he found himself trapped in what seemed like a glass case. "Let me out!" he demanded, moving to bang on the glass and hissing as it burned him and forced him to recoil. ...It was then that he spotted Hex.

"Oh my god, what have you done to him?" he asked willy, wanting to touch him but nervous about touching the clear case again.

"What's going on?"

Willy flicked his fingers and the case vanished and the lattice opened so Spencer could get out of the bed. Then he turned his attention to Hex and with little more than a thought he had the man levitated, laid out, arms folded...he looked so peaceful.

"Get out of the bed so I may place your friend there for safe keeping," he said. "He needs to lie down and be comfortable."

"No- what he needs to be is awake!" Spencer snapped, reaching to touch Hex and looking worried. "Please, he's not safe here..."

With the bed free he placed Hex very gently upon the moss, a large red blossom beneath his head as a pillow. With the wave of a hand the water formed an impenetrable bubble over him, encasing him safely.

"He will come to no harm and when you have found Avalon for me perhaps we can find a way to wake him up. Otherwise he will sleep safely for a thousand years here," he said, telling only the smallest of lies.

”I'm not doing anything until Hex is awake and safe,” Spencer said stubbornly, touchingthe magic bubble and again hissing in pain.

”Please,” he begged.

"Hex is perfectly safe, my friend. I needed you and he nobly offered to save you. He has taken your place and the magic remains in balance. Now you may fulfill your promise to me and then I shall help you to save him. But not before. Will you sit here and pine for him or will you come with me, find me Avalon and use the library to learn of the fruit and its spell, and then return with knowledge to save him?" he asked

Spencer didn't think he had a choice- nor did he know how to pine- and he nodded slowly.

"Alright," he said softly, nervous about leaving Hex all alone.

"You swear he'll be safe?" he asked.

"He will be safe," Willy assured him. "I'm sure you can tell by the sting that the bed is much more powerful magic than I usually use. Hex will be fine. He will sleep peacefully and not know of the passage of time and when he does awake you will find him happy and healthy."

Spencer still looked unsure, but he didn't argue. he would do whatever he had to to wake Hex up. It was that simple.

"Then let's go," he said softly.

"Do not eat any more low hanging fruit," Willy cautioned, and then set out. The woods were dark and deep, the air smelled of wet ground and green leaves. It was quite a walk but soon the forest opened up to a wide meadow where a large palace could be seen on the other side.

"We are nearly there," he said, pointing to the distance. "I can almost assure you when we get to the bridge the Glaistig will try to have some fun with you. Stay close and say nothing."

"What do you mean?" Spencer asked, staying close despite the discomfort that came from being near Willy. "What kind of fun? Don't be so cryptic."

"She will try to trick you into going into the water, Spencer, then she will drown you and tuck you down at the bottom to keep you forever," Willy said, sparing no detail. "So do as I tell you. Stay close to me and I shall see that you come to no harm."

"It can't trick me into going into the water," Spencer replied, looking doubtful and feeling sure he was far too clever for that sort of thing to work.

Willy didn't argue with Spencer. He knew well enough how convincing the Glaistig could be. He lead the way to the bridge and as soon as Spencer set foot on it the form of a woman rose up out of the water, dripping and rippling and shimmering.

"Hello, my prince," she said, her voice like bells and cascading water. "Who is this fine guest you have with you? Come closer, sweet, and let me see you," she added, speaking to Spencer.

"No thank you," Spencer replied, seeing no reason to do as she asked.

His mind drifted back to Hex, and his stomach twisted at the thought of him being alone in a place so full of strange things.

She could not come onto the bridge but the column of water she rose out of moved right to the edge and water ran trough the rails and soaked their shoes.

"Such manners," she said, reaching out to touch him with icy cold fingers. "You should come see what I have, my friend. Se what treasures I keep. I could give you gold. Jewels. Knowledge. Come see...come see," she added, her voice soothing and tempting to the mortal ear.

Willy slowly reached over and took hold of Spencer's arm just in case her magic worked.
