Bobby

The Alpha bar was crowded and Willy had played his heart out, weaving a spell over the crowd that had them in a near frenzy by the time he stopped playing and released them. He left the stage and smiled brightly as people gushed and fawned over him. Everyone loved him here and he ate up the adulation ( Read more... )

Bobby didn't make it to Willy's shows as much as he had when they'd first started dating, but he still enjoyed going every now and then. The place had been pretty packed by the time he got there, and he'd only caught the last few songs, but it was long enough to feel the magic beneath Willy's music, to be moved by it a little himself. He smiled, watching his boyfriend with an unmistakeable look of pride.

After the set ended, it took him a few minutes to make his way through the bar and to the backstage area, where he figured he'd find Willy since he wasn't out among his admirers. He froze as he found who he was looking for--and a whole lot more. For a few endless, heartbreaking seconds he could only stare as his boyfriend shoved his tongue down some woman's throat, her hand clearly in his pants. He considered turning around again, walking away, out the door and down the street and--where? There was nowhere he could go to escape this, no path he could take to make him unsee it.

He wanted to yell, to scream and curse, to tear her away from him and demand explanations, but in the end his reaction was much more WASP-y than that. He simply cleared his throat, hands shoved into his pockets as he stood there, looking awkward and miserable.

Willy broke the kiss and turned to the sound. FOr a moment he thought it might be Rich with his subtle way of telling Willy to find somewhere more private for things like this. But then he saw Bobby and he gave him a slow, seductive smile and gently pulled away from the girl.

"Bobby, sweet," he said. He reached down to do up his pants as if they hadn't been doing anything untoward at all. "Let me introduce you to...to...what was your name, petal?"

"Oh, um, Amy," the girls said as she shifted uncomfortably and toyed with her hair.

"Amy, yes. Bobby, this is Amy."

He didn't feel bothered at all. He hadn't been in bed with her, after all. He wouldn't have done that, surely.

Bobby just gaped for a minute. Was Willy actually introducing him to the girl who'd just had her hand shoved down his boyfriend's pants? "Yeah. Great," he muttered, shaking his head and turning to walk out again.

"Sweet..." Willy called, then gave the girl an apologetic look before following after Bobby. The crowd was thick and he didn't catch up to him until they were both outside.

"Bobby, wait," he said as he reached to catch him by the arm.

"What?" Bobby whirled, glaring daggers at Willy. "What do you want?"

"I want to know why you're upset, sweet. It was just a bit of harmless fun. She means nothing to me," he said, oblivious as to why what he'd done might wound his boyfriend.

Bobby stared at him for a minute, at a loss for words. "She had her hand down your pants!" he finally sputtered, shaking his head.

He paled as something occurred to him. "Has this happened before? A bit of harmless fun?"

"It's harmless," Willy insisted. "I've taken no one to bed, I can assure you of that. But you must have done the same...with Kitty, perhaps? She's a lovely young woman. I wouldn't fault you."

Bobby made a choking noise, turning red. "Of course I haven't! Because I have a boyfriend!" Not that he would do anything with Kitty even if he didn't have a boyfriend--which he was beginning to wonder about. His stomach hurt as he stared at Willy, utterly betrayed. "You just don't...don't do that!"

"You don't? Why not?" he asked innocently. He paused a moment and then shook his head.

"Why would anyone deny pleasure? My caring for you has nothing to do with anyone else I might enjoy," he said, trying to be reasonable. "We have no thrice made promise, sweet...don't be upset with me for enjoying life."

Bobby shook his head, too upset and hurt to even be able to have this conversation. "I can't--" He threw up an arm in a helpless gesture and turned, walking away, sick to his stomach and trying to swallow the lump in his throat.

"Bobby, wait...don't go," Willy said, taking a few quick steps to catch up. "It was never my intention to hurt you..."

"Well you have," Bobby retorted, but he slowed to a stop without turning around. "And you don't really seem to care, or to even want to understand why."

"But I do care, sweet," he replied, reaching out to touch Bobby lightly. "Tell me, please...why does such a thing hurt you? Do you not have the same urges? Do not tell me you deny yourself pleasures. I would think no less of you if you did."

"Of course I do. Because there are more important things than instant gratification," Bobby explained, still hurting, but reminding himself that Willy wasn't human. Sometimes he would have to go back to the basics.

He took a deep breath and turned around to face Willy. "Relationships are about more than just pleasure. They're about loyalty, devotion, faithfulness. When you're with someone, when you l--when they're important to you, you show them that they're important by putting them above other things, above a few minutes of pleasure." He ran his fingers through his hair and then crossed his arms over his chest, frowning.

"You would ask me to put your happiness above my own," he mused, digesting the foreign concept slowly. It seemed strange to him, to think beyond himself. This boyfriend business was much harder than he thought it would be when he'd agreed to it.
